Obituary
Father Robert Damien Grosch, 78, died September 30 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Montana.
He was born on December 2, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois, to Eugene Anthony and France Helen (Dunne) Grosch.
Father Grosch received a B.A. from the Pontifical College Josephinum and was ordained a Catholic priest in June of 1974. He devoted his career to the Great Falls-Billings Diocese. In 1979, he received a Master of Divinity from the Josephinum and in 1988, a judicial canon law degree from St. Paul University in Ottawa, Canada. In addition to being pastor of a number of diocesan churches, he served as Judicial Vicar on the Marriage Tribunal of the Diocese, as Chancellor of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings and as Promoter of Justice for the Diocese of Helena, Montana. Father Grosch retired in 2021 and in June, 2024 celebrated his 50th year as a priest.
Father Grosch is survived by his sisters and brother, Margaret Mary (Walter Sulskis) of Lacey, Washington, Eugene Anthony (Kathy) of Elgin, Illinois, Teresa Anne (Thomas Roberts) of Glencoe, Illinois, and Catherine Cecelia (Brice Reedy) of Clarksville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Abigail, Melissa, Adam, Frank and Nell and ten great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Joseph, his sister, Mary Frances, and his nephew, Noah.
Memorial contributions can be made to Priests’ Retirement Fund and Clerical Benefits, Diocese of Great Falls.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday October 6th at 10:00 am at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Billings, MT.
