Maxwell Mulvaney
February 18, 1998 - December 09, 2025
Obituary
Maxwell “Max” Thomas Mulvaney, 27, of Billings, Montana, passed away on December 9, 2025, in his hometown. A loving son, partner, brother, grandson, and friend, Max will be remembered for his generous heart, gentle soul, and the way he made everyone feel seen and valued.
Born on February 18, 1998, in Billings, Max was the beloved son of Thomas Mulvaney, Lesli Fenner, and Matthew Fenner. He grew up surrounded by a large, caring family that included his sister, Madison McWilliams; brother-in-law, Jonny McWilliams; and his nephew, James McWilliams. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Erin Lindell; grandparents Tracy and Pam Willett and Barb Mulvaney; and many relatives and close friends. Max was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Mulvaney.
From a very young age, Max displayed curiosity and creativity. At just four years old, he replicated the city of Billings water system using ‘pull tugs’—an early sign of his remarkable mechanical and electrical aptitude. Guided by his mentor Mr. Tolton at the Career Center, he honed those talents and became an integral part of the electrical team that helped construct a house through the program. Professionally, he found great joy working for Aerotronics. Additionally, he was an all around handy man for anyone in need.
Max was proudest of his deep connections with his circle of friends. Most recently he began one of his hardest, yet most rewarding accomplishments, in achieving sobriety. He loved fishing, gardening, video games, and cooking, but above all, Max loved his people and his beloved pets. He had a gentle soul, was generous, humble, and no one listened better than Max. He had an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease and comfortable. His “huge ass hugs” and ever-present smile brought comfort and belonging to all who knew him. As we recently overheard from his friends, “Max was everyone’s best friend because of the way he connected with each of us.”
A funeral service honoring Max’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Avenue, Billings, MT 59101. Donations may be made to a local AA chapter. The family invites everyone to take a kid fishing and hug your loved ones in Max’s memory.
Unfortunately, Max took his own life. We urge, with the heaviest of hearts, that each and every one of you communicate with your loved ones. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. And if having suicidal thoughts, please reach out for help.
