Michael Keil

Michael “Mike” Brian Keil, 61, of Custer, Montana, passed away on December 23, 2025, from a tragic accident on his beloved farm.  Born on June 6, 1964, in Billings, Montana, Mike was the son of Deanna and the late Eugene Keil.  From an early age, he developed a love for the land, eventually turning that passion into a lifelong calling.  Farming was more than his livelihood-it was his purpose and pride.

For 35 years, Mike shared his life with his wife A’Lona.  Together they raised two children, Courtney Jo Keil Nelson, and Zachery Keil, whose accomplishments brought him immense joy.  His three grandchildren, Teagan, Trinn, and Wrenley, affectionately called him “Papa” filling his days with laughter and love.

Mike took great pride in continuing the family farm that he and his father built, passing on that legacy to his son Zach, now the third generation to work the same land.  Known as a quiet man with a big heart, Mike was most a peace among his crops and machinery-his best friend always a John Deere.

Mike had numerous farming accolades but wasn’t ever boastful about them. He was a true love of the land farmer.

Mike is survived by wife A’Lona Keil, children Courtney Jo (Craig) Nelson, Zach (Tyla) Keil, Grandchildren Teagan Chyler, Trinn Michael, and Wrenley Rae.  Mother Deanna and sister Michelle.  His bonus sisters Aloa (Guy (Wally)) Sundstrom, Amber McLaughlin.  Hunter (Kaite) Parshall and boys Kase and Cash, who became part of Mike’s family when hunter started working as a hired hand on his farm 5 years ago.  Aunts Uncles, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Mike is preceded in death by his father Eugene Gene Keil and grandparents.

A Celebration of life will be held on January 11, 2025, at 2 pm at the Rhoadside Event Center in Huntley, MT.
