Obituary
Clinton Wendell Kegel, 75, of Billings, went to be home with the Lord on February 20, 2026, at Intermountain Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
Early Life and Education
Clinton was born on April 25, 1950, in Havre to Charles and Doris Kegel. From an early age, he displayed determination, integrity, and a heart for service. As a young man, he earned the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting his strong character and leadership.
He later pursued his love of music, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, a foundation that would influence many areas of his life.
Marriage and Family
On October 3, 1992, Clinton married the love of his life, Martha Ludwig, in Havre, Montana. Their 34 years of marriage were marked by faith, devotion, music, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Doris and 2 sisters Sibyl and Helen.
Clinton leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha, children Candi (Timothy) Elwood, Joel Kegel, Mike (Michelle) Weiland, Chris (Selma) Weiland and Jenny Covington, Grandchildren Ariana Elwood, Ethan and Quinn Weiland, and Eli Covington and a great granddaughter Oaklyn Weiland, Brother Jerry (Peggy) Kegel and sister Barbera (Jim) Delsigne and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family was his greatest joy and proudest legacy.
Career
Clinton dedicated 31 years of service to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, where he worked as a Safety Officer and Clerk. He was respected by colleagues for his diligence, leadership, and deep commitment to workplace safety and responsibility. He and Martha also owned the Topeka Bench Company for several years, always working together as a team.
Music and Community
Music was one of Clinton’s greatest passions. A gifted barbershop singer, he found joy in harmony and fellowship through his involvement in several groups, including

Through these ensembles, Clinton earned multiple barbershop awards and built lifelong friendships. His rich voice and love of harmony brought encouragement and connection to many. We have confidence that he is singing praises to the Lord in celebration!
Faith and Service
Clinton’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted member of Faith E Church, he was actively involved in Bible studies and mission trips. He lived his beliefs through quiet acts of service, generosity, and steadfast love.
Celebration of Life
A celebration of Clinton’s life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 11:00 am at Faith E Church in Billings, Montana — what would have been his 76th birthday — a meaningful tribute to a life faithfully and beautifully lived. A lunch reception will follow.
