Obituary

Michael Dean Phillips, 69, of Billings, Montana, went home to Jesus on March 21, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Mike was born on December 5, 1956, in Billings to Marjorie and Don Phillips. He was the oldest of four siblings and carried that role with quiet strength throughout his life. Mike and his wife, Carol, shared 49 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, hard work, and faith.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his two children and their spouses; seven grandsons; many extended family members; and his two loyal dogs.

In 2022, our family was given precious extra years with Mike thanks to an anonymous kidney donor. In his memory, we ask you to consider becoming an organ donor. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Avenue, Billings, Montana 59101. Additional information can be found at dahlfuneralchapel.com.

Our family sincerely thanks the Intermountain Health ICU and Comfort Care teams for the compassionate care they gave Mike in his final days.

Thinking back over 50 years of adventures, in the mountains, on the rivers, camping, fishing, and hunting with Mike; there are a lot of memories of great times with family and friends. We will always remember, the Christmas's looking for Santa, waiting to spy his fly by; Easter egg hunts in the back yard; Fourth of July, playing horseshoes, having bonfires, and watching the kids shoot off fireworks; Memorial days, thinking of loved ones not here anymore. Every Thanksgiving was special with everyone coming together, talking, and just being with one another; how about all that great food—the turkey, the world’s favorite dressing that only Mom and Carolann can make, best salads, chip dips, and desserts, too. We can’t forget the ham with pineapple gravy and mashed potatoes, and with mom’s famous Calico Beans. We definitely had enough fiber in our diet and farts, too. Let’s have a toast to Mike and a life well-lived with a great bear or a shot of your choice. CHEERS! Love, Jock, Richelle, and Carly Kay

We would all go fishing on the Bighorn river near Fort Smith. Mike loved fishing but he loved watching Carolann and the enjoyment of others when fishing. How do I know? It’s because he always rowed the boat. Mike was a selfless man, a person that would give you the shirt off his back…someone that would sacrifice his favorite pastime so you could enjoy yours. Enjoy fishing in heaven, Mike.
