Obituary
Diane Popelka‑Wegner “Crazy Diane” 71, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at her home in Billings, Montana.
Born on September 24, 1954 in Billings to Donald Popelka and Reva Nash‑Popelka, Diane was the youngest of three children. She grew up in Acton, Montana, alongside her brothers, David and Ronald, and graduated from Billings Senior High School with the Class of 1972.
After high school, Diane embraced life with her characteristic spirit and welcomed her son, Jason, at age 25. She spent most of her career as a front desk clerk in the hospitality industry, where she loved meeting new people and greeting familiar faces. She also devoted several years to caring for her mother. Diane retired at age 63.
Her greatest joy came later in life with the arrival of her two grandchildren - Cayden and Kinnsley who were truly the light of her world. She never missed an opportunity to gush about them.
Diane loved the outdoors: camping, fishing, and feeding the ducks at Riverfront Park were among her favorite pastimes. She was also known for her passion for gardening and her Crocs. Her favorite color was purple, and she had an unmatched green thumb - so much so that anyone who dared look at her plants the wrong way would hear about it.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Reva Popelka; her brothers, David and Ronald Popelka; and her partner, Jerry Stank.
She is survived by her son, Jason Leonard; daughter‑in‑law, Nikki Leonard; and her beloved grandchildren, Cayden Leonard and Kinnsley Leonard.
Honoring her wishes, Diane was cremated at Dahl Funeral Home and her final resting place will be a beautiful lake. A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2026.
