Obituary
John Thomas Ferguson, 63, passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2026. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who have had the privilege of knowing him. John loved his children fiercely. He was incredibly proud of them. And no matter what life brought, his love never wavered. That same love carried over to his grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart.
John found joy in life’s simple pleasures and was happiest when he was outdoors. Quiet mornings spent fishing, days in the mountains hunting, the loyal companionship of his dog Rooster, and countless hours tinkering under the hood of his truck. He had a natural talent for fixing almost anything and took pride in working with his hands. What made these passions even more meaningful was sharing them with his children. Whether teaching them to cast a line, track through the woods, hand over the right wrench, or simply enjoy the ride, he created lasting memories and passed on not only his skills, but also his patience, work ethic, and love of the outdoors. These moments together became some of life’s greatest gifts and will be cherished by his family forever.
John was proud to be part of a large family, where there was never a shortage of stories, memories, laughter, spirited disagreements, and, above all, love. He had a special gift for making everyone feel like they belonged, often by giving them a nickname-whether they wanted one or not. If John gave you a nickname, chances are it stuck, and chances are he was the only one who could get away with calling you by it. His playful spirit, quick wit, and ability to make those around him smile will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind his brothers and sister who will each remember him in their own way. We all feel the loss of a brother who had been part of their lives for so many years.
John was preceded in death by his mother Sandy Ferguson; His father, Robert Ferguson Sr; both sets of his grandparents; his great nephew Jordan French, and his beloved dog, Rooster.
He leaves behind his four children, Brandie Byxbe, Johnnie Ferguson, Thomas Ferguson, and Carrie Ferguson; five grandchildren; and his many brothers and sisters’ along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
John lived life on his own terms, spending his days doing what he loved most and surrounded by the people and dogs he loved. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his passion for fishing and hunting, and his trucks. He shared these passions with his children, creating memories, and teaching lessons that will stay with them for a lifetime. His stories, words of wisdom, unforgettable nicknames and on-of-a-kind sense of humor brought smiles to everyone around him. Though he will be missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
We hope the hunting is good, the trucks always start, the dogs are waiting, and the fish are finally as big as you said they were. Rest easy old man, WE LOVE YOU!
