Obituary
Eli D. Schreier passed away on July 1, leaving behind countless family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives are forever changed by his absence. Though he’s gone far too soon, the impact of his life will continue to live on in everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Eli was the kind of person who could walk into a room full of strangers and leave having made lifelong friends. He never met a conversation he didn’t want to have, and if you gave him the chance, he’d happily talk your ear off about just about anything. His laughter was contagious, his heart was genuine, and his willingness to help others never depended on what he had to gain. Whether it was helping run errands, spending a day cooking steaks, attending a concert, or simply showing up when someone needed him, Eli gave his time freely and loved deeply.
Those who knew Eli knew that love was the center of everything he did. He had a heart as big as the Montana sky, and when he loved, he loved with every fiber of his being. His greatest joy wasn’t found in possessions or accomplishments but in sharing experiences with the people he cared about.
He could spend an afternoon tending a smoker and preparing a meal for family and friends, head to the shooting range to enjoy a day outdoors, or simply take a walk followed by a burger with someone he loved. It was never about the activity—it was about the people beside him.
Eli was proud to be an American. He worked hard, played hard, and cherished his country. Independence Day was his favorite holiday, a celebration that perfectly combined his love for family, barbecuing, fireworks, and spending time with those closest to him.
One of Eli’s greatest gifts was his complete lack of judgment. He accepted people exactly as they were, making everyone feel welcome, valued, and comfortable simply by being himself. He believed in treating others with kindness, talking with everyone, and building friendships wherever life took him. He reminded us that the best parts of life are found in genuine connection, shared laughter, and time spent together.
Although his life ended far too soon, Eli leaves behind a piece of himself in every person he loved. His generosity, adventurous spirit, humor, compassion, and unwavering kindness will continue to inspire those who carry his memory forward.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Eli’s life on Sunday, July 19, at 5:00 p.m. at Limber Pine Campground, located approximately 13 miles south of Red Lodge, just off the Beartooth Highway.
Following the service, family and friends will gather for a barbecue in Eli’s honor.
Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite dish that reminds them of Eli, as cooking and sharing food was one of the many ways he expressed his love.
Attendees are also invited to dress comfortably in clothing that reflects their own personality—something suitable for an afternoon in the mountains, sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps a little brisket.
The family also welcomes any photographs of Eli, regardless of quality, to help preserve the many memories he created throughout his life.
As we remember Eli, may we continue to live by the example he set: love others without reservation, talk with everyone, treasure fellowship, and never miss an opportunity to create memories with the people who matter most.
He is deeply loved. He will be profoundly missed. He will never be forgotten.
