Obituary

George William Peters, Jr. was born on August 7, 1935, in Crow Agency, MT, to George William Peters Sr. and Martha Willert. George returned to his heavenly home in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 12, 2026, to spend eternity with the love of his life, Phyllis. George passed surrounded by his loving family.

George attended school in the Wyola area until the 8th grade. After 8th grade, George left school to live “The Cowboy Life”. He wrangled wild horses and lived a life of service to the Lord and provided for his family. His grandson, Zackery, said it perfectly, “Grandpa George was a traditional Cowboy who had a natural affinity for animals and passed on and nurtured the natural beauty of our tribal landscape”. George was a member of the Piegan Clan.

George met the love of his life, Phyllis Abraham, at a dance in Lodge Grass, MT. George & Phyllis married on December 22, 1958, in Billings, MT. George & Phyllis enjoyed 62 years of marriage; a true testament for the love they shared.  George & Phyllis made their home and raised a family in Lodge Grass, Reno Creek, Crow Agency, Hardin, and Custer Creek. George could be found enjoying the grandkids, telling a great story, singing, and painting. George’s artistic ability extended to music as well; as he would be playing his harmonica, banjo, mandolin, and violin. George revered God’s animal creations, as he raised sheep, goats, chickens, horses, porcupine, deer, pigs (Mrs. Kissenger), and turkey, to name a few.  It has also been reported that they even raised a skunk. George could also be found at his favorite fishing spot on the river or lake.

George served his country with honor in the Army and later in the Army Reserves. George completed training at the Airborne School in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. George’s incredible work ethic which allowed him to hold many occupations. He worked as a water plant operator, laborer at the carpet mill, police officer, and firefighter. In more recent years, George & Phyllis served as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, where they made many friends and made fond memories.
