Alvin Kinn

Alvin Grant Kinn, 81, passed away October 24th, 2026, in his home in Park City, Montana. Alvin was born on December 28th, 1944, in Minot, North Dakota to Otto and Luella (Hansen) Kinn.

Alvin was raised near Benedict, North Dakota. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict where he received his rite of confirmation on June 21st, 1959, and attended high school in Max, North Dakota. Alvin worked road construction and went to work at the McLean County Indepentent newspaper in Garrison, North Dakota. On June 20th, 1966, he married the love of his life, Sheryl Nelson, in Garrison. This is where they made their first home and started their family. Clayton was born in 1967, Byron in 1968 and Richard in 1969. In 1972, they decided to try something new and moved to Colstrip, Montana, where Alvin went to work for Bechtel Construction to help build the new Power Plants. Colstrip is where there were two more little boys added to their family, Kevin in 1976 and Michael in 1977. They were born in Billings, Montana. When the job in Colstrip was finished, they moved to Laurel, Montana and lived in that area ever since.

Alvin enjoyed playing guitar and singing with family whenever there were get-togethers. He rode snowmobiles and motorcycles, and liked camping and fishing. He spent time reading almost every day. His favorite past time was sitting out on his front porch enjoying the view and listening to music.

Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Sheryl, his parents, sister, Baby Kinn, brother Charles Kinn, and nephew, Jason Kinn.

Alvin is survived by 5 boys, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Clayton (Danita Holmes), grandchild Austin (Bailey Castillo), great grandchildren Myles, Grayson, grandchild Dalton, and Colton; Byron (Carrie Hurley), grandchild Cody (Daizey Baxter), great grandchildren Chloe, and Luella, grandchild, Katie (Brady Muller) great grandchild Maddox, grandchild Kyle; Richard, grandchildren Matthew Felde, Jesse, Breanna (Jakob Bakken); Kevin (Trina Eckhart); Michael (Jodi Lehmann), grandchildren Kelly (William McComish), and Brandon; 1 brother, Orlien (Naomi) Kinn, Keith and Loretta, sister in-law Ellenor Kinn, Obert, Chris, Lynda, Tina, Otto, and Julie; Norma Anderson, Randy, and David; Shirley and Bill Dygert, Will, and Joe; Rita and Ron Dinehart, Miha, Emily, and Derrick; Gordon and JoAnn Nelson, Tiffany, and Brittney, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, extended family and friends.

Visitation services will be held from 5pm to 8pm on November 13th at Dahl Funeral Chapel located at 10 Yellowstone Ave, Billings, Montana.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on November 14th at Dahl Funeral Chapel proceeding with burial services at Sunset Memorial located at 1721 Central Ave, Billings, Montana.
