James Althoff

James (Jim) Althoff, 90, passed away March 25, 2012 of natural causes in Billings. He was born May 12, 1921 in Powell, WY, went to school in Pompey's Piller, MT. His family moved to Bridger, MT, where he worked on the family farm there and surrounding farms. Jim ran his own trucking company which included hauling fuel, freight, and vehicles. Jim met and married Dolores Lorraine Myervold on July 19, 1958 and lived in Billings and Bridger. As he drove truck he became mechanically adapted to keep the trucks running and later sold the trucks to work various jobs as a mechanic. He worked at many different locations which included working in Alaska during the building of the Alaskan pipe line. Jim was a union member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and was until the time of his death. He retired in 1985 and at the time was living in Bridger with wife Dolores. After retirement, Jim and Dolores became snowbirds. After Dolores' passing, he went to the Holy Land in Israel, toured Europe and visited Lourdes in France. Jim is survived by daughters Pat (James) Knapp, Jr. of Portland, OR; Linda (Craig) Watson of Houston, TX; Jackie (Tony) Moler of Billings; grandson Mark Demaniou, of Grand Island, NE, whom he and Dolores raised; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister Kathryn Sorter of CA; brother Allen (Florence) Althoff of Bridger. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents Anna Weinzetl and Anthony Althoff; sister Theresa Dahlstrom; brother George Althoff; brothers-in-law Earl Dahlstrom and Gene Sorter. Service: Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings, 10 Yellowstone Ave. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bridger, Montana.
