Alan Curtis

Alan Deane Curtis passed away with courage and grace in the early morning hours of Dec. 3, 2016. Born Nov. 6, 1927 in Edmore, MI, he was the youngest son of Percy and Doris Curtis. After high school, he enlisted and served his country in Okinawa and the Philippines. Under the Gl Bill, he received a master's degree in geology from the University of Michigan. It was there he met Louise Powell, and they were married on Dec. 29, 1950. Oil brought the two geologists to Montana, but it was their mutual love for the wide open spaces that made them stay. Alan's greatest accomplishment was finding value and happiness in all the stages of his life. He had an encouraging nature, an unwavering faith, a quick sense of humor and an uncommon decency. He will be greatly missed by his family; twin sons, Mike (Lisa) of Grand Junction, CO and Mark of Helena, MT; daughter, Amy (Roger) Hawkins of Billings, MT; and granddaughters, Emily (Chris) Contois of Providence, Rl and Martha of Billings; and brother, Tom (Rose) of Hampton Bays, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bruce; and his wife, Louise. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be at 7 p.m., Dec. 29 at American Lutheran Church.
