Obituary
Philip C. Diede, 64, of Billings, MT passed away on Jan 2, 2017 at the Riverstone Hospice Home. Phil was born in 1952 in Billings. Phil is preceded in death by his mother, father and two sisters, all of whom he loved dearly. Phil grew up in the outdoor beauty of Montana, he often told of how much he loved hiking, fishing and camping with only his pack and sleeping bag. He loved talking of retreats in the mountains or road trips with friends and how much it meant to be among people he loved. Phil took pride in his work ethic and had a special skill in including and taking notice of others. Phil spoke often of his priority to be kind, to practice kindness in ways that would make a difference. In his lifetime he gave generously with his time, energy, dedication and monetarily to causes that showed support to the welfare of another. With his great zest for living and pleasure at being with others Phil would order pizza for patients and nursing staff when hospitalized, he enjoyed making a moment into a special occasion whenever possible. Phil had appreciation for a good cup of coffee, a chance to walk in the leaves and a joke with friends. Phil desired to know God in his life and talked daily of what it meant to have patience and love for others, to know God's love and show love. He understood what it is to fall down and then get back up with another's help and made effort to give support in kind. In 2014 Phil was recognized for his dedicated work as a cancer survivor and received the Q2 Volunteer of the Year award for service to others in treatment. Phil often expressed gratitude for the many people in his life, those who reached out to him and cared for him in the middle of his struggles and encouraged him in a multitude of ways. Phil's wish is to be remembered as a kind and loving person who wanted the best for others. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Phil was a kind and gentle soul who was always glad to see others. I knew him from a group we both belonged to and I was always glad to see him there. We connected off and on for years and I am sad to see he is gone. He touched many people and I am sure he is in a better place now. Rest in peace Phil.

I was friends with Phil's parents - played bridge with Helen for years. I was glad to read what a wonderful man Phil was and how he touched the hearts of so many. May Phil's spirit find as much joy in its journey, as he found in life. Prayers for the Diede family.
