LaVerne Dilbeck

LaVerne Mary Pickart Dilbeck LaVerne Mary Dilbeck, 87, died in Jim and Nancy Nielsen's home on October 23, 2014, after a lengthy illness with family members by her side. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook. LaVerne was born in Fargo, ND on June 24, 1927 to Vern and Myrtle Pickart. She lived most of her youth in Miles City, Mt. and was very proud to be a Custer County Cowboy. A 49er, “Pic” graduated from MSU in 1949 with a degree in education. She taught school in Glendive, Columbus, Park City, Laurel and Billings until 1992. She cared deeply for her students and had a passion to see them succeed. After graduating from college she taught in Glendive where she met and married Donald Nielsen in 1950 and had three sons Donald, Robert and James. She married the love of her life in 1966, Melvin Dilbeck. They were married 42 years until his death in 2008. She had a special love for her family, planning gatherings just as often as possible. She was an outstanding cook/baker and seamstress; her memory will live on in us with every recipe and stitch. LaVerne is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Edward. She is survived by her sons Donald (Laurie) of Denver, Robert (Sara) of Houston and James (Nancy) of Billings. Her grandchildren that she loved and adored John (Jeannine), Amanda (Tyler), Michael, and great grandchildren Jordan, Jack and Isabella. Her brother Robert Pickart (Olivia) of California and nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Riverstone Hospice and Dr. Michels for their care. Anyone wishing to make donations in her honor may do so to Riverstone Hospice or any of the Montana State University campuses. Vigil Service is pending. Memorial Services are at noon on November 7, 2014 at St. Patrick Co-Cathedral in Billings. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings.
