George Dunbar

George Elsworth Dunbar, 82, was born on June 11, 1932 in Roundup, MT to Donald and Victoria (Pedergnana) Dunbar. George passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of December 22, 2014. Though our hearts are filled with great sorrow, we take comfort in knowing he is once again dancing with his beautiful bride Irene to their song, “Near You.” George was raised on the family farm in Musselshell, MT. It was there that the importance of hard work and family values were instilled in him. He graduated from Musselshell High School and soon after joined the U.S. Air Force. Through a fellow serviceman, he met the love of his life Irene Carol Bruhn. They were married on March 9, 1957 and together raised four boys and two girls. George's service career took him to several places overseas and his unwavering Faith always brought him home to his loving family. George was proud of his service to his country and was very proud to be a Black Pearl of Iwo Jima. After serving 20 years at several different bases, he retired with his family in Billings, MT. He then worked for Pierce Packing and the Pierce family before retiring in 1995. George was very active in his children's lives whether it was being a scout leader, attending sporting events, camping and fishing, or playing a good ol' game of cards. If you were old enough to count, you learned how to play cribbage and this was true of his grandchildren as well. He used to square dance and was an avid bowler on many leagues over the years. He took great pride in sharing his beautiful garden and flowers. His home, inside and out, was a showcase of love. He was a longtime active member, and former Grand Knight, of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a longtime member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. George's Catholic Faith was very important to him. George is survived by his children Vicki (Dusty) Gress, David D. Dunbar, Carl (Shelly) Dunbar and Nancy (Don Daniels) Brink, all of Billings; Grandchildren William (Shawna Rudio) Gress, James (Nicole Warner) Gress, Christopher, Matthew and Taylor Dunbar, Thomas (Courtney Vitez) Corbin, Timothy and Nicole Corbin; Great-grandchildren Rian Gress, Trey, Maybrie and Mileigha Corbin. He is also survived by sisters Dona Dunbar, Marian Peters and Myrna Nicholson. Also many numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Irene; sons Chris and Jerry; both parents; sisters Lilian and Phylis; and brothers Harold, Gerald and Oscar. Viewing Wednesday and Friday 10:00am to 4:00pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A Vigil will be on Friday, December 26 at 7:00 pm, and Funeral Mass Saturday, December 27 at 10:00 am, both held at St. Bernard Catholic Church.
