Obituary
Tony P. Dunn, 53, of Billings, MT, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in his home after a brief battle with cancer. How do you describe a life? The dates and milestones cant tell the story, but they can serve as reference points. Tony Dunn will be remembered not for dates and accomplishments, but the way he touched everyone he knew.Anthony Patrick Dunn was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, on May 22, 1956, and lived in the small town of Frazee, MN. He moved with his family to Billings, MT, at the age of 9. Tony graduated from Billings West High School in 1974. He then went into the Marine Corps from 1974 to 1978 and spent some time stationed in the Phillipines. Tony married Susan Klein (now Susan Watters) in 1979. Their first daughter, Jessica, was born on Oct. 31, 1980, and their second daughter, Maggie, on Aug. 22, 1983. Tony graduated from the University of Montana in 1986. Tony and Susan divorced in 1992. Tony met his fiance, Kim Olivo, in October 2003.Tony was a member of St. Bernards Parish since 1992 and has been a lay Carmelite and member of the Knights of Columbus for several yearsTony was an avid outdoorsman: he loved the mountains. He backpacked with his two daughters, or with his fiance, or, if no one else was available, hed go by himself. He refused to camp anywhere there was not a lake or river to fish. He taught his daughters to hunt as soon as they were old enough to be licensed, bought them fly-fishing rods for Christmas and had them practice their casts in the front yard of his apartment building. Hed take them up onto the West Fork of the Stillwater to practice catching and releasing little cutthroat trout.Tony was always happy to “get out of Dodge”, whether he was headed to the mountains, or just going for a drive on a road hed never been down before. In 2002, Tony bought and moved to property north of Billings. He loved to watch the wild birds and feed the bunnies, leaving them fresh carrots and water and singing to them “Carrots for my bunny-friends!” He spent a great deal of time “farmin”, growing vegetables and flowers on the dry Montana prairie, hauling tanks of fresh water to keep the plants alive.Tony worked for Billings Clinic as a Financial Analyst in Decision Support, though he referred to himself as a “pointy-headed bean counter”.Tony is survived by his parents, Pat and Pat Dunn of Billings; his two daughters, Jessica (Brandon Sather) Dunn of St. Louis, MO, and Maggie (Tim) Kelleher of Wellington, CO; his fiance, Kimberly Olivo of Billings and her three children from a previous marriage, Nick, Joe and Amanda; his brothers and sisters, Kim (Jim) Cunningham of Billings, Cheryl (Tim) Fisher of Seattle, WA, Jim (Connie) Dunn of Soldotna, AK, Steve (Kim) Dunn of Spokane, WA, and Matt (Chris) Dunn of Billings and their families. Tony is also survived by his grandson (Grandpeanut, as Tony called him) Cameron Sather of St. Louis, MO, a granddaughter due in June, and another grandson due in July.Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Dahl Funeral Chapel. To the Dunn Family My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Tony. Even though he was older than Matt and I when we were growing up I can still remember the times he looked out for us when the other brothers were picking on us. A couple of years ago when I was out of work I ran into Tony in the grocery store. He said he had heard that I had lost my job and put me in contact with people he knew at the Clinic as well as in private industry. Just like that even though I hadn't seen him for years. There again he was looking out and helping others. Tony was a great guy and will be missed dearly. Scott Wolverton

Please accept my love and prayers for Tony. Tony, me and my brothers were part of a rat pack of kids that used to roam about in Frazee. We were in Scouts together, had CCD classes, and many other things. I can still remember "Suzie's Cafe" in Frazee, Tony's Grandma and 10 cent pops. Tony's Mom & Dad knew my parents well: Tom & Martha Mahon. Hope Tony can hook up with Tom & Marty and talk over old times up there. All I can offer is my heartfelt sorrow, prayers and condolences, and it is so true our time here is brief, so make the most of every day, just as Tony always did Jeff

My condolensces to Tony's family, fiancee and his close friends. Tony had so many good qualities and extended himself to many people. I remember him doing communion at Eagle Cliff Nursing Home and going to the group home for the disabled. He truly lived his faith. I had talked with Tony occasionally when I'd run into him at work at Billings Clinic and was not aware until recently that he was ill. He was a good person and I'm sure he will be missed by many. So sorry for your loss. Martha Allen-Madrid

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Tony. I worked with Tony in the late 70's and early 80's at Associated Food Stores. I loved the boat float trips , the softball games, and just watching him enjoy life with his young daughters.Tony was always the mature one in the bunch, doing the right thing and always making people feel welcome,he was a mentor to most of us when we were young and reckless! The last few years Tony had joined my football pool, and we were both big Viking fans and never won the big prize. He will be truly missed! Tony you are awesome! Floyd and Pam Halligan
