Arline DuVal

A bright light and beautiful lady has left our lives, but Arline is now enjoying the peace and love of God and all the family and friends that she said goodbye to over her lifetime. She was born March 4, 1911 in McVille, North Dakota to Alice and Ernest Nyberg but lost her father to a farming accident when she was only four. In 1920, her mother married Clarence Golberg, and Mom, her brother, Harry and sister, Geneva, moved with them to Minneapolis. It was there that they acquired a new family: Orville, Jean. Goldie, Art and later, Lorraine, who was born in North Dakota In 1931, Mom moved to Crookston, Minnesota to be with her sister, Geneva, who was marrying Cliff DuVal. It was there that she met Cliff's brother, Frank, a lovable Frenchman who was also known as Frenchy. He was the love of her life, and they were married March 18, 1932. Their first daughter, Sharon, was born in Benson, Minnesota. The family moved to Red Lodge in 1939. Dad could not find work there so he rode his bike back and forth to Billing looking for a job. He was finally hired by Midland Packing House, and the family moved to Billings, where Sandy, Colette, Richard and Debbie were born. Mom and Dad always had company stop by. They were great with people and everyone enjoyed being with them. Dad brought home meat from the packing house, and Mom, being a great cook, always made enough to feed company. She also had wisdom that all of us relied on. One day 1 asked why so many people came to our little house, and she said that if people only came to see her home, they weren't welcome. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom but did work a few summers at NeHi Bottling Company and later for Creeks Building Maintenance. Mom was a loving, kind, and strong lady. We relied on her wisdom and strength to get us through the tough times in our lives. Her sister, Goldie, once commented that Mom didn't worry about things. It is pretty amazing, because she had been through so much in her life: the 1st and 2nd World Wars and those that followed; The Great Depression; the dust bowl years in North Dakota; and the loss of so many loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Richard; grandson, John; nephew, Tom DuVal; Geneva and Cliff; brother, Harry; brothers-in-law, Frank Rector and Don Sigourney; her parents; and so many other family and friends. She is survived by her sisters, Goldie Rector of Washington, UT, and Lorraine Sigourney, of Brookings, OR; daughters: Sharon Oblander, Colette (Bob) Todd, and Debbie (Frank) Kroll of Billings, and Sandy (Frank) Pirtz of Rock Springs, WY; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. We wish to thank the wonderful staff at Billings Health and Rehab for taking care of Mom these past years. Service: Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
