At the age of 84, John Forbes died peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at St. Johns Lutheran Home in Billings. John was born the son of Guy Asher and Charlotte Forbes, March 15, 1926 in Wabash, IN.On June 29, 1947, John married Lucile Sittler. They farmed and lived in rural northern Indiana while raising their seven children. In 1976, they moved to Malta, MT. John and Lucile divorced in 1977 and John moved back to Indiana for work. He returned to Montana in 2002 under the care of his grown children. In May 2007, Dad moved to St. Johns Lutheran Home for his remaining years. He gained another family with the staff at St. Johns; their love and care made him very happy and he felt at home.John was a member of the Huntley United Methodist Church.He leaves behind his seven children: Teresa (Clair) Streeter, Cassandra (Bryce) Blankenship, Jan (DJ) Cornutt, Pete (Carol) Forbes, Romona (Bill) Burke, Abbie Krocker, Lynn (Donna) Forbes; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by Lucile in 1994; his parents; 3 sisters: Mary Robinson, Wilma Howell, Thelma Jerew; 1 great-grandson Laredo Gilmore.Visitation will be at Dahl Funeral Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010. Funeral services for John will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010, at the Ocee Johnson Chapel of St. Johns Lutheran Home, and he will be laid to rest in Mountview Cemetery.Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel. sorry for your loss , i never met john but i know Abbie very well . he raised a wonderfull daughter and a very hard worker. just wish i could have met him . god bless you all .

John, I loved your great sense of humor. I recall one morning as you were reading a story in the morning paper. It seems that a chef had cut off part of his thumb while preparing a salad. The story went on to say that the chef had left the thumb piece in the salad only to found later by a distressed restaurant patron. I’ll never forget that grin on your face as you looked up from the paper and said “well….that salad was only worth one and a half thumbs up”. We had a good belly laugh over that one. You were a quiet man of few words but had a heart of gold. So long for now Sir, until we meet again.
