Obituary
Maretta French, 83, of Nye, Montana passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2017 with her family by her side. Maretta graduated from Absarokee High School before joining the work force in Billings where she retired from Consolidated Freightways. She was married to the love of her life, Ray M French in 1953 and together they had five children. Survivors include daughters, Bobbi (Carl) Michotte and Karon (Steve) Snook; sons Doug (Sue) French, Nick (Lanette) French and Al (Terri) French; sisters, Mable (Dave) Stubbe and Cora Lee (Bud) Carlson, brother Buzz (Joyce) Stimpson, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray; granddaughter Jessi; great-grandson Christopher; four brothers and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, it was Mom's wish that you surround yourself with family, embracing and lifting them up, recognizing the preciousness of the moment. Memorials may be made to RiverStone Health Hospice Services (Stillwater County) or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel. Memories may be shared at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com A Celebration of Life and a family gathering will be held in Mama's honor at a later date.

What a blessing to have known Maretta for the majority of my life. Her sincere loving nature will truly be missed. She was a very charming, caring, honorable lady who will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her zany loving personality will be forever remembered. We all will dearly miss her. It was my privilege to have known such a fine person. God's speed sweet lady. From the entire Jones family.

From: Scott Armstrong 01/22/17 I have known Maretta and the entire French Family for about 54 years starting out when I was in first grade with Doug at Washington School in Billings.We were in school together all but 1 year through high school. I have great memories of Maretta and Ray and the rest of the family especially after they moved to Pueblo Drive and we moved there as well after living for 1 year in Columbus. Maretta and Ray would at times take most of the neighborhood camping up on the West Fork of the Stillwater and that usually included myself and my younger brother Donny and my younger sister Jeanie. Maretta was one of the people I admired most in my life. I did stop one day last spring and told her just how much that meant to all of us that she put up with us and created so many great memories. She was one heck of a lady and as I remember tough as nails. She is the only person I know that could do a dinner of deer meat and make it so it didn't taste like it to me as she was the only person that could cook it and I liked to eat whatever she cooked. I remember going hunting for mushrooms with Maretta and family and I can't remember what they were called but Maretta did an absolute fabulous job of cooking them and again I enjoyed eating them. I enjoyed stopping in at the cabin to visit with her or calling her on the phone just to say hi. She was quite a lady and anyone that knew her knew that. I know the last few years she had been in lots of pain but she never complained. I know she is with Ray now and he will get to show her all around heaven. We will never understand why things happen the way they do or why some people go before others but we are sure of one thing and that is Jesus now has one of the best with him.
