Mildred Gregoire

Mildred ‘Millie' Gregoire joined her Heavenly family on May 27, 2017 at the age of 95. There to greet her were her husband. infant daughter, Cathy, her mom and dad, sisters Genny and Esther, brother Leroy and many other family and friends. She was born in Richmond, MN on Dec 12, 1921 to John and Louise Schoenborn. She joined sister Genny, soon to follow were siblings Esther, Leroy and Virginia. Millie met her husband Royl Gregoire while working at the Red Apple Cafe in Mahnomen, MN. They were married October 22, 1946. This began Millie's love of music as Royl's family was very musical. If she wasn't listening to Royl playing music, they were dancing to the music. They used to love to fish and nothing delighted Millie more than to out fish Royl. They were able to enjoy being ‘Snowbirds' for three winters and had a wonderful trip to California. Millie was a classy lady, she always had her hair fixed just right, make up on and dressed nicely even if she wasn't going to leave the house. Millie always greeted everyone with a smile. She was a hard worker, even after retirement she always said she had to have one job a day to do. Millie started her tenure as the best, longest serving waitress the Muzzle Loader Cafe ever had in the early 60's. She left temporarily to work the snack bar at Newberry's downtown but returned to the Muzzle Loader Cafe for the rest of her working years. She retired the first time at age 62 but got bored and went back to work. She finally retired at the age of 81 for the last time. Millie was able to spend several summers with her sisters in Minnesota. During this time they played a lot of cards and she got reacquainted with several cousins. She liked to bowl and was on different bowling teams over the years. She enjoyed going to state tournaments and even went to Reno, NV. for nationals. Into her 80's she participated in Senior League bowling. Millie loved to go on drives to the mountains. Her favorite was driving the Chief Joseph Highway to Cooke City, then down the Beartooth Highway and back to Billings via Red Lodge and Absarokee. She was also a little adventurous and agreed to a rubber raft trip on the Stillwater River with her son-in- law but demanded that her face would not get wet! Millie loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She got such enjoyment out of watching them play. Millie is survived by daughter, Beverly (Cliff); grandsons, Matthew (Des) and Patrick (Robin); great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan and Simon; sister, Virginia; several nieces,nephews and cousins; and special friends, Misty and John and Arlene. We would like to thank Dr Malters and staff, Compassus, and all the staff at St John's Lutheran Ministries for their compassionate and kind care given to Mom. Services will be at Saint John's Lutheran Ministries Chapel Court Friday June 2 at 2:00 with burial to follow at Mountview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, St John's Lutheran Ministries or the charity of your choice.
