Obituary

Robert 'Bob' Guckeen, 71, of Billings, left us on Sept. 18th, 2015. He was born in Waco, Texas on July 11, 1944 to Harold and Helen Guckeen. Years after moving to Montana, he attended Central High School and graduated in 1963. He served in the United States Navy from 1965-68, afterwards working as a laborer then retiring from the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1981 Bob married Jeanne Waters of Richey and had two children. Some of his many passions included gardening, hunting & fishing, but more recently all his focus went on spending time with the light of his life, his only grandson, Cash. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Sarah and Tara, and Jason, from a prior marriage; three brothers including his twin, Vaughn Guckeen (Dianne), Terry Guckeen, Michael Guckeen (Chela); three sisters, Carolann Von Eschen, Marcia Torgerson (Les), and Pattie Schumacher (Brian); and a very special aunt, Clara Still. The memorial service will be held at Heights Baptist Church on Thursday, September 24 at 10:30 a.m., followed by the burial of ashes at 1:00 p.m. in Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel. We would like to extend our grateful appreciation for the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Vincent Hospital who gave him a few more precious years with us. He will be missed dearly and forever in our hearts.

Jeanne, Sarah & Tara, I'm saddened to hear the loss of Bob. I remember when I was little and my dad stayed at your guy's house while working in Billings. Please know I am thinking of you all. With love. Autumn (Lunde) O'Malley

I just now heard of Bob's passing and it was a shock. I had no idea that his health was poor, since I remember the guy who was so tough and impervious to weakness. At Class Reunions I enjoyed reminiscing with Bob about the good times at Central High when parties were the rule on weekends. There was a group of us that got together often and celebrated our youth. On one particular Friday night, Bob and the rest of us had celebrated well into the early hours of Saturday morning, when Bob had to get up early for a wrestling match. With a king sized headache he was able to pin his opponent in record time, a testament to his skill and wrestling prowess. I will miss my friend and offer condolences to his family, especially Vaughn and Terry who I knew well. Jack Sturdivant

We go back probably farther than you remember. I think my aunt lived next door to you on Garden Avenue ?( somewhere down there) and we used to come visit even before grade school. Since we didn't live in the same part of town (Terry Park area) we didn't meet up again until high school. So sorry for your loss. Our condolences to your family. You were such a delight...always with a smile and giggle. I considered you a friend and my life is blessed by knowing you, Vaughn and Terry. Be sure to tell your old friend and neighbor, Dan Brown, hello from me. What a bunch you were :)
