Obituary
Hazel Helen Arthun, 91, of Absarokee, MT died Friday, January 27, 2012 in Laurel Health and Rehab Center in Laurel. Hazel was born in Killdeer, N.D. December 23, 1920, the sixth child of Nels and Josephine (Starling) Nelson. Hazel attended school in N. D. during the depression years and went to Idaho to be with her sisters when she was 16. She moved to Absarokee in 1940 and worked for Martha and Harry Arthun as a cook and housekeeper. She married Harry Arthun in 1941 and ranched on Butcher Creek until his death in 1985. Hazel loved livestock and the land. She was a 4-H leader and involved with the education of her children. She was baptized and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She read everything in sight and was a self taught person. Hazel fulfilled one of her dreams to go to Jerusalem and to see and walk where her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had walked. She spent her retirement years in Idaho, Laurel and Arizona, moving back to Montana in 2000. Hazel is survived by her children, Olga (John) Blanchard of Buckeye, AZ, Bertha (Vern) Spurgin of Absarokee, MT and Donald (Thale) Arthun of Absarokee; sister, Ethel Nelson of Laurel; grandchildren, Mike (Marylin) Blanchard, Diane (Steve) King, Tylea Spurgin, Lail Spurgin, Scott (Emily) Arthun, David (Kayce) Arthun, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Marvil, Nels and Ted; sisters Olive, Isabel and Carrie. A special thanks to Gail Ott and Home Health of Stillwater Hospital for their care of Hazel in her last years at home. Thank you to the staff at Laurel Health and Rehab and to Rocky Mountain Hospice for their love, care, and support for the last three months. Memorials may be made to Skip's Kids in Absarokee, the Absarokee Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Dept., or to the charity of your choice. Service: Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Graveside services will be held at the Rosebud Cemetery Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following at Don and Thale Arthun's residence.

Olga, Don & Family. So sorry to hear of the loss of fellowship with your Mom. Even tho you know she is well and happy where she is, it is always a hardship to love the one who you could ask anything of and she would usually have an answer. May God comfort you and give you peace knowing she would want you to remember all the things you did together and remember her with love. LOve Shirley

Hazel was and still is my great grandma. I remember the day we did not know what to get her for her 90th birthday. After a bit of shopping we decided to get her nail polish. When all the great grandchildren were painting her nails I saw her face light up. That was a special day to remeber for all of us. We were all happy and the happiness from that day is still deep down in my heart and is something I will never forget.

Dear Grama Hazel, you are going to always be in my heart.I miss you so much. You were a great Grama. You liked to watch football. She liked feeding Gruf a lot. I remember the time we made you sugar cookies and brought you McDonalds for dinner. You tried getting up out of your chair and I said you need to stay in your chair. You said you were going to beat me done to the ground.
