John Haven

John (Jack) Haven was born in Missoula, MT on July 9, 1926. He died unexpectedly on April 21, 2018. He spent his early childhood in the Lambert – Sidney area where he attended school in a one room schoolhouse through the sixth grade. At age 11 the family moved to Kalispell and he graduated from Flathead High School in 1944. After high school he entered the Armed Forces and served for 22 months, and then attended Montana State University. He worked in the construction industry for the next 39 years. In 1954 he married Norma Oiland in Spokane, WA. They lived in Great Falls and raised their 3 children there. In 2012 they moved to Billings where they resided until his death. Jack enjoyed many activities. He helped teach his family to ski, enjoyed playing golf, traveling, gardening and woodworking. He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 3. As a long time member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Great Falls, he served on the church Council. He also served on the Board of Directors of Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell and was an active member of SCORE. For over 30 years Jack was a management Trustee on several Taft Hartley Trust Funds including the Montana Operating Engineers Construction & Mining Trusts, Montana Teamsters-Contractors/Employers Trust and the Laborers AGC Trusts of Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Mary Haven, his son Craig and his sister Betty. Jack is survived by his wife Norma of Billings, daughter Jody Janes (Terry) of Kent, WA, son Terry (Penny) of Billings, grandchildren Kristina Haven, Ashley and Emily Janes, Candra Preovolos (Spiro), Bryan Haven (Jaclyn), Mark Haven (Erin) and 4 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mission Ridge Pastoral Care in Billings or Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Great Falls.
