Anne Hauptman

Anne Mclaughlin Hauptman died peacefully on the 14th day of February 2011, of natural causes at the Billings Clinic. Anne was born to Edward Patrick and Loretto Rush Mclaughlin on September 5, 1922, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1943 and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. It was at the university that she met the love of her life, Chuck Hauptman. They were married after Chuck graduated from Officers' Candidate School the year of her graduation. After World War II, they lived in Natchez, Mississippi; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1952, they moved to Billings to raise their 7 children. Anne had many good friends and was active in the community. She was a charter member of the Billings Junior League, a past president of Geology Wives, volunteered 10 years at St. Vincent's Hospital, was a member of the Friends of the Library, and was the chairman of the Montana Library Commission. She taught briefly at Billings Central High School and what was then Eastern Montana College (MSU-B) and authored the "Better Business Letters" writing course, which she taught throughout the state for businesses and banks. She was a died-in-the-wool Nebraska Cornhusker fan. She really grew up with football, as her father was a football coach before he became a lawyer. She attended her first football game at the age of 3. Anne is survived by her husband, Chuck, and six children: Pat, Jim (Linda), John (Linda), Leila (Dean), Anne (Brian), Tom (Kim), as well as her grandchildren Jim, Katherine, Charlie, Rob (Tanya), Tim, Annie (Paul), Michael (Krystal), Elizabeth, Emily, Connor, Kathleen, Keelen, Gretchen, Hunter and 5 great-grandchildren. She loved and was proud of them all and followed their activities with relish. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Jane and Helen; her brother, Bill; and her youngest son, Dick. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the St. Patrick's Rectory Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice. Cemetery: Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Service: There will be a Vigil 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 18 and Mass 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, both at St. Patricks Co-Cathedral.
