Darle Hemmy

Darle Lyle Hemmy was born June 27, 1925 in Humbird, WI. He died on March 30, 2015. He spent his last days watching the Billings rimrocks for planes lifting off to the heavens. He lived on the family farm outside of Humbird, and then moved to Mondovi Wisconsin where he graduated from high school in 1946. He entered the Army/Air Force, and was trained for pilot and bombardier at stations across the US. This time created an interest in aviation that continued throughout his life. When WWII ended he attended college at Eau Claire ,Wisconsin and graduated in education in 1950. He was recalled to service in the Air Force and was stationed in Great Falls where he met and married Sarah Sauber. After his service was completed, they remained in Montana where they raised their four children before the marriage ended. He attended Montana State University and received his master degree. He worked as a teacher and school administrator in Clyde Park, Virginia City, Noxon, Geyser, and Columbus. He loved the rugged Montana landscape and enjoyed the hunting, camping, and fishing at these communities. In 1977 he married Genevieve Rangitsch in Billings, and became a devoted stepfather to her five children. After retirement from public school service, Darle worked as real estate agent in Wisconsin, and often joined family reunions with his siblings and their families. They returned to Montana and have resided in Billings since 1990, enjoying time with their grandchildren. Always a student of geography, Darle traveled often throughout Montana and the West to visit family and discover new places. Darle died on March 30, 2015. He spent his last days watching the Billings rimrocks for planes lifting off to the heavens. Darle is survived by his wife Genny; brothers, Dale (Delores) and Ron (Sharon); sister, Ruth Steihl; children, Patrick and Georgia (Ken) Brensdal ; step children, Kurt (Miok) Kilwien, Pamela Kannegiesser, Rebecca Kilwien, Kimberly (Tom) Hogan, Pat (Sue) Kilwien; and his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora and Wallace and daughters, Kathleen Jorgenson and Darlene. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St Thomas Catholic Church on April 8 at 10:00 am. Inurnment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The Family would like to thank the Riverstone Health providers and the Valley Nursing Home staff for their dedicated care.
