Irvin Herem

Irvin Raymond Herem was born July 31, 1931, to Osmond and Katherine (Allen) Herem on a ranch four miles south of Absarokee, the youngest of seven children. He spent his life at the home ranch raising sheep and cattle before moving into town in 2005. Irvin attended Absarokee High School where he participated in the school band and FFA, graduating in 1951. He was a life-long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing with the church choir. He loved celebrating Christmas by surprising his nieces and nephews with a sack of candy each Christmas Eve dressed up as Santa Claus, enjoying lutefisk and lefse, the Norwegian foods of his heritage, and decorating the house with lights, even winning the local award twice. Irvin passed away on October 17, 2014, after a short illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Kenneth, Oliver, and Charles, his sisters Ruth and Florence, two nieces Mary Alice Schott and Rosemarie Herem, and one grandnephew Dan Oltrogge. He is survived by two nephews Larry and Norman Herem, four nieces Sharlene Oltrogge, Ann Parker, Beverly Herem, and Loretta Herem, and their families, and several cousins. Graveside services will be held at the Rosebud Cemetery on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stillwater Senior Center, Box 92, Absarokee, MT 59001.
