Margaret Catherine (Conwell) Heyd left us unexpectedly in the early morning hours of September 1, 2012 due to Alzheimer's complications. She was born in Red Lodge, MT on April 7, 1923 to Edward P. and Callista (Shay) Conwell. She grew up in Red Lodge and after graduating from Carbon County High School in 1941, Margaret attended Montana State Normal College in Dillon where she earned her teaching certificate in 1943. Her first teaching assignment took her to Ismay, MT where she met the love of her life Leo R. Heyd. Margaret also taught in Malta, MT and Great Falls, MT. Margaret and Leo were united in marriage on June 23, 1952 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge, MT. They moved to Billings, MT in 1953 where they built their home and became members of Holy Rosary Catholic church. This past June, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Margaret was a wonderful mother who devoted herself to nurturing her family. Margaret was proud of her Irish Catholic heritage. She sang in the church choir and assisted with many church projects through the years. She enjoyed traveling and with her teaching back ground she always wanted to see the state capitals, courthouses, schools and churches. We will always remember her fondness for the color red.
