James “Jim” Hintz James R. Hintz, 58, of Billings, Montana, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2013. Originally from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Jim was born on August 22, 1955 in Marquette, Michigan, to James and Ruth (Hanninen) Hintz. He was a 1973 graduate of Ishpeming High School. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with his B.A. and M.A. He received his J.D. from the University of Montana in 1999. Jim married Joan E. Groom on June 1, 1984. Jim was a partner in the Law Firm of Crowley/Fleck since graduation. Previous employment included Jim working as Dude Wrangler in Colorado. Jim worked for many years in the building trade; his craftsmanship was exceptional. Jim had many passions in life including fishing, hiking, and being in the outdoors. His hobbies reflected his passion for fishing by his handcrafted fishing poles, lures and flies. He co-hosted a radio program featuring a variety of outdoor topics. He was an avid sports fan and was born a “Green Bay Packer Backer.” Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife, Joan and daughter, Jasmine, enjoying many vacations in Florida and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He was a compassionate and positive man and enjoyed life to its fullest. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. Jim is survived by his wife, Joan E. Groom of Billings; daughter Jasmine Hintz of Billings; sister, Ruth Hintz of Marquette, MI; sister Susan (John) Rader of Ishpeming, MI; brother, Martin Hintz of Gwinn, MI; one aunt, Theresa (Robert) Olds of Ishpeming; several nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Service: A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Ave., Billings, MT 59101.

So very sorry to learn of the passing of our classmate, Jim. He was always a respectful and kind boy, so I'm sure he was the same as he grew up. He will be missed and will be remembered by all who knew him. RIP Jim.

You have my deepest sympathy. In our younger days Jim and I spent some time together as he lived with us for a few months while his parents house was being built. He was my cousin, but I think of him as a good friend. I can remember when he got an old Harley Davidson motorcycle. He picked me up and off we went, to the camp, of course. We must have looked pretty good, two big fellas on that old bike, with me hanging on for dear life while going up hills and through dirt. We laughed for quite some time thinking about that ride. I'll never forget those moments. Once again, I am sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. As a member of the class of 1973 for just our Junior and Senior years I remember him as being very kind to a shy, awkward transfer student. He was a gentle giant with a great sense of humour and that wonderful deep voice. It sounds like he lived his life well. Thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

In prayerful thoughts, we extend our sincere sympathy to Joan, Jasmine, Ruth, Susie, Martin and extended families. Jimbo, as we lovingly called this gentle giant, is my cousin. As we grew up together and shared so many loving days at our family gatherings and our Upper Michigan summer camp, we watched our younger cousin reach heights far above our own stature, both in body, mind and soul. We all smile as we hear the others mention his gentleness, intelligence and heartwarming persona. Jim had a special way to reach us all and all he touched have been blessed by him. Jimbo, We will miss you here on earth, but "we will see you again ~ this is not where it ends" ... we are washed in the Blood of the Lamb! God's Peace and our Sincere Sympathy!
