Obituary

“Do you want to know what makes dying so easy? Knowing where you're going!” Sheldon Lee Hultgren's softly spoken words were courageous and true shortly before he was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father. Created for cultivating relationships, working hard, and interjecting humor into everything, Sheldon was born to Lawrence and Carolyn Hultgren October 8, 1947 in Willmar MN. Growing up, Sheldon's fun-loving personality began to shine in grade school. He was the favorite among his classmates, and no doubt, an unforgettable student to his teachers. Sheldon was active in sports and raised award winning cattle in 4H. After graduating from high school in Kerkhoven, he acquired a Sociology degree from Saint Cloud State University. Professionally, Sheldon's love for people and his dynamic personality was recognized by QSP Reader's Digest, District 13. They hired him out of college and he dedicated the next 35 years to serving the students in Eastern MT and Wyoming schools. Providing fundraising opportunities to help diminish the cost for extracurricular activities, Sheldon went beyond his job description and spent his time getting to know the students, the staff, and the happenings within each school. Sheldon met and married Faye Dyk in April of 1977. Together they enjoyed spending time with other District 13 employees which were thought of as a 2nd family. During their 42 years of marriage they discovered that traveling brought them joy. Pebble Beach, New York, and Canton Ohio to visit the Football Hall of Fame were just a few of the places their travels took them. However, chief among them their adventures were the road trips around the United States that they took with his sister Jeanie. They faithfully traveled to rodeos and baseball games to cheer on their grandkids and began wintering in Arizona after retirement. Sheldon was a man of commitment. He spent over a decade training Little Leaguers at Crow Field and was an inspiration to all he coached. Years were poured into the game of golf. Not only was he great at the sport, but it was yet another platform to pour into people. Sheldon was committed to the Vikings. Win or lose, he was proud of the purple and gold that ran shamelessly through his veins. Sheldon was a man of faith. Throughout in his life, Sheldon found fulfillment connecting with and serving people. However, in his later years, he entered into the deepest and most vital relationship of his life… his relationship with Jesus. “Knowing where you're going”… what an excellent way to live. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:21-46 Thank you, Sheldon, for being a relationship champion, committed father and exceptional friend. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who cared for Sheldon as he fought through his illness. Stan and Cathy Rasmussen being among those who went above and beyond loving Sheldon and Faye through the entirety of their marriage. Sheldon passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Carolyn Hultgren and his brother-in-law Dennis Full. Sheldon is survived by his wife Faye, his children, Heather (Sherrod) Kyle, Albuquerque, NM, Angie (Gary) Meyers, Rapid City, SD, Jason (Jodi) Camp, Belgrade, MT, Jeff (Deede) Camp, Goodyear, AZ, Hubert (Alden) Hultgren, Scottsdale, AZ, and Brandi (Gabe) Lapito, Billings, MT, his sister Jeanie Full, Eden Prairie, MN, and niece Melanie Full, Modesto, CA. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. While no words can erase the pain of your loss at this time, you can look forward to the promise at Revelation 21:4 – “God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Death and pain was not God's purpose for us. However, when this promise is fulfilled, we will enjoy life the way our Grand Creator purposed for us…forever on earth. (Psalms 37:11, 29)

Sheldon and I had our last visit late June of 2014 in Billings- enjoyed a 3 hour lunch talking of old times together. Sheldon was a true friend and would help out in anyway he could if one would ask him. RIP Sheldon, you're in the Hands of Your Loving God now.

Dear Hultgren Family, My late husband, Jerry Fox, and I really enjoyed working with Sheldon every year during the Heights Little League fund raising projects. He truly was a people person! His smile lit up the room and his sense of humor was second to none. He will be missed here but will certainly be surrounded by a ton of friends in heaven. I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve found that the memories we keep close to us bring so much comfort. God Bless. Linda Fox

My first interaction with Sheldon was his annual visit to Fratt Memorial School for the annual magazine drive. As a student I was always excited to hear him describe the various prizes available for selling those magazines. Living on the second hole at Lake Hills I spent many summer days playing golf and joined Sheldon in the afternoon gangsome. His love for the game was apparent and we played many rounds as I went through high school and college. As a person with a positive outlook on life I have no doubt he is in a better place. My condolences to his family, he truly was a special person and a good friend. Mark Hagen
