Archie Jefferson

Archie Wesley (Bear Ground) Jefferson of Pryor, Montana went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019. “Bring gifts home” “Baakuuloolahkuush” , a Crow name given to him by the late Pius Real Bird, was born November 19, 1964, in Crow Agency to Wesley Justin (Bear Ground) Jefferson and Barbara Lee White-Comes Up. Vincent Keith and Lugenia Hawk-Blackhawk and Heywood and Mary Lou White-Big Day helped raise him. He received his early education in Lodge Grass and graduated from Plenty Coups High School in 1983. While in high school he actively participated in basketball, cross-country and football. He was a two year state basketball champ in 1981 and 1983 and cross-country in 1980 and 1981. He also loved to hunt and being outdoors. He loved being in the mountains when he was a game warden for the Crow Tribe. Archie was of the Ties-The-Bundle clan and a child of Ties-The-Bundle. Archie made friends wherever he went and a friend to all. He loved to laugh and had tremendous humor. He will be greatly missed. He loved to help anyone in need when he could be of some help. His door was open to everyone. He was a humble man who kept his personal relationship with Jesus in his heart. He was preceded in death is his father, Wesley J. (Bear Ground) Jefferson; grandparents, Archie Bear Ground, Star Jefferson-Stops, James White Sr. and Sarah Hawk; an adopted mother, Wilma Backbone; brothers, James Big Lake Sr. and Harold Jefferson. Survivors include his mother, Barbara White-Comes Up; adoptive parents, Heywood and Mary Lou Big Day all of Pryor; children, Frank, Stephanie, Ryan, Marcia Lynn and Joshua Jefferson; siblings, Dora (DeWayne) Costa Conrad (Marla) Stands, Wesley Jefferson Jr., Opal Bear Ground, Derek, Heywood Jr., William and Jace Big Day; aunts, Clarice Medicine Crow, Josie Nomee-Stands, Veronica Nomee-Pretty On Top, Bonnie Hawk, Claudette, Elna, and Ferol Blackhawk, Dorma Blackhawk-TakesEnemy, Clemmencia Stops, Connie Russell, Melissa Falls Down, Judy Jefferson, Junetta Jefferson-Gardner Jr., Fray (Victor) Jefferson-Nomee, Sheila Jefferson-Wallace. Descendant of Frank Hawk Hears Every Way, Dora Travels Well Known, Otto Bear Ground. Children of Olive Bear Ground-Stewart, Lester Jefferson, Mary Carpenter, children of Maude Bear Ground-Stops and Shirley Bear Ground Stewart; uncles: Bruce White Sr., Clinton and Mike Stops, Vince Blackhawk, Robert and Chester Nomee Sr., Dave and Raymond Jefferson Jr., Ronnie Big Lake. Extended families: White, Jefferson, Bear Ground, Hawk, Carpenter, Stops, Nomee, Little Nest, Dust, Goes Ahead and Charges Strong- Wilson. Please forgive us if we left out anyone. It was not intentional during our grief. Vigil service will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. Charles Mission in Pryor with interment to follow in Pryor Cemetery.
