Obituary
Elaine Therese Jensen, formerly of Culbertson, Montana, passed away July 1, 2018 surrounded by family at the Morning Star Senior Living in Billings, Montana. Elaine was born in Bisbee, North Dakota on September 24, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Schulenberg) Geisen. She grew up and attended school in Bisbee. In 1947, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Minot State Teachers College. She and five of her girlfriends were recruited from the Minot Teachers College, to teach in Culbertson, Montana. She taught music and business in the Culbertson school from 1947 until 1953. In 1951, Elaine was married to Herman Jensen of Culbertson. During her years in Culbertson she especially enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader and later a Den Mother for her sons in Cub Scouts. She was active in the Cottonwood Club, Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and was an organist for St. Anthony's Catholic Church for many years. The “Sweet Adeline” chorus was great fun for her as was “The Auxiliary Singers” during her seven years as State Music Chairman of the Montana American Legion Auxiliary. After Herman's retirement, they spent many winters at Mesa Spirit in Mesa, Arizona. While in Mesa, she was an enthusiastic member of the “Songbirds”, a women's chorus there. Elaine is survived by her husband of 67 years, Herman Jensen, her three sons and their wives, Neil (Shirley), Brian (Joanna), and Blake (Denise), her six grandchildren, Emily, Nathan (Katie), Calvin (Jamie), Amy, Adam, Erik, and her three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Caleb, and Samuel. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and his wife, Sonny (Phoebe) Geisen of Bisbee, North Dakota. A vigil will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, July 9 and funeral service at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 10, both at St. Bernard Catholic Church, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel, Montana. My deepest condolences to Herman and the boys and their families with Elaine's passing. Elaine and my mother graduated from Minot State together and were friends while attending college. In 1960 we moved to Culbertson and our families have been connected ever since. Mom and Elaine. of course, re- connected quickly and Herman and Dad became fast friends. I babysat the boys on many occasions and Herman was first my barber and then my insurance man. Rest in Peace, Dear Lady

Herman & family, I am so sorry to hear of Elaine's passing. I always enjoyed my visits with her and her memories of my mother's sisters at Minot State University. So few people in this area knew my maternal aunts that I have few people from who I learned tidbits of their lives. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days.
