Obituary

Richard (Dick) Theodore Baker, 75, passed away Feb. 24, 2016 at Billings Clinic. He was born on Nov. 9, 1940 on the homestead North of Poplar, MT. He attended country school at Mineral Bench and graduated from high school in Richey, MT. He was baptized in Melrose, MN in the Lutheran Faith. Richard had strong work ethics that he learned while growing up and was a trucker for many years. He was a compassionate man who welcomed everyone to his home and whatever else they needed. No one was ever turned away. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother, Lucille Elizabeth (Streeter) Baker and father, Eugene Wilbur (Pete) Baker, and brother, Clarence Ben Baker. He is survived by daughters, Carla Colter (Don), Carolyn Hughes (Roy); sons, Richard "Rick" (Brenda), Joe, Wade (Bobbi), Dean (Kim) and Eric; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Manthei (Don) Melrose, MN; and brothers, Eddy (Clara) Billings, MT, Bud, Fairview, MT and Jerry, Lafayette, LA. Richard was a remarkable father who delivered two of his children, wrapping them in his shirt, while later continuing on to the hospital. He loved all his family dearly. He always dressed in western clothing, big hat, boots, and jeans. He was truly a ‘cowboy' at heart and the ‘2 Bar Kid' will be missed! When I think of my Uncle Richard, I think of the words WARM,LOVING,UNCONDITIONAL,GIGANTIC HEART! One could talk to him on anything , your joys, your hurts and you knew ,they were left right their. .......A nonjudgmental, caring man, who LISTENED,UNDERSTOOD, because he had been there. He always knew of the right words to say,to make YOU feel better. ......Always thinking of others before himself.......Heaven you have truly gained a selfless Cowboy.....Your niece, Lisa Linquist Knettel

I absolutely loved Dick and Buddy to stop in at the Burger Hut and looked forward to seeing them at least 2-3 times a summer. Of course, I always had something that needed fixing, and between the two of them, the job got done, and I never had to replace the "fix"! He was so kind, thoughtful, and truly interested in everybody he visited with. I could go on and on, but I think whoever knew Dick, knew he was a very nice and gentle man. Your 2nd cousin( 3rd to people that don't know the rules of cousins...LOL) Shirleen Baker (Wayne's youngest daughter) and Jim Lekvold.....we love and will miss you.

I knew Dick when I lived in Wolf Point, us both being raised for a time in Mineral Bench. Pete and Lucille were friends of my mother, Verna Jensen Schumacher, and my grandparents, Ma and Pa Jensen. We had nice visits at rodeos where he was a contestant and I a timer/secretary. Wish I could have had more visits with him, he was full of stories and had such a great sense of humor My thoughts and prayers with all of you. Barbara (Bobbie)Jensen/Schumacher) Wood Oklahoma City
