Henry Kastl

Henry “Hank” Luther Kastl Jr. of Billings passed away July 30, 2013 at Butterfly Assisted Living. Son of Henry Luther Kastl Sr. and Sarah Kyger Kastl, Hank was born August 8, 1921 in Hominy, OK. Hank spent his youth in the mid-west working on oil rigs with his father and with the CCC's. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 right after Pearl Harbor and served until 1946. During his time in the Navy he met Mary Ruth “Jo” Beall; they were married September 22, 1945 in Vancouver, WA. Henry and Jo had two sons; Gregory Luther Kastl and David Douglas Kastl. During the 1950's Hank took his young family to Billings where he worked for the Pierce family as an auto mechanic specializing in Jeeps. Hank left Pierce for several years during which he opened his own shop alongside John Beurers on Montana Avenue. Upon returning to Pierce he became the service manager for their RV and trailer center, a job he enjoyed until he retired. Hank enjoyed the time he spent as an active mason in Billings as well as the time he spent both woodworking and as a recreational lapidarist. Hank was preceded in death by his son Greg, his parents and siblings. Hank is survived by his wife Jo; son David of Helena, MT; granddaughter Christina Kastl-Lopez (Ed Sr.) and their children Savanna, Ed Jr., Brenna and Cole Henry, and their grandchild Vivanna Grace Lopez-Arreguin, all of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter Monica Tavenner and her husband Eric and their children Tim (fiancée Natasha), Tyler and Tommy of Billings. Thanks to the staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice; what a wonderful gift your team of professionals offers to families. A grateful family, we thank you. For their love and care we also would like to express our gratitude to the staff both past and present of Butterfly Assisted Living. Hank so thoroughly enjoyed the two years that he spent living there. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made in Hank's name to an Epilepsy Organization or an Autism Organization of your choice. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service held in Hank's honor, 11 a.m. Monday, August 5 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a reception at 1:00 p.m. at Butterfly Homes (77 Lily Valley Circle).
