Gary Kennedy

On April 17, 2013, our loving father, grandfather, brother, cousin, friend, coach, mentor and hero passed away after a courageous battle of cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones during his battle to the end. Dub was born on the 8th or 9th of November, 1936 to Henry J. and Lucille F.(Raymond) Kennedy in Hamilton, Montana. He was raised in the Bitterroot valley with his sister, Joyce, and numerous Raymond family members. He graduated from Hamilton High School and went on to the University of Montana on a full ride football scholarship. He graduated in 1959 with a Bachelors degree in Physical Education. While attending college, he met and married the love of his life, Karen Marie Bockman. They were married in November 1957 and had five children: Mick, Shane, Shawn, Tim, and Stacey. His teaching career began in Kalispell and then moved to Ronan High School to coach football. This started his 20+ year career in coaching with stops in Chinook and Hardin. During that time he also coached wrestling and track. Dub won numerous championships, coached many champions and touched many lives. If you met or played for Dub, you would never forget him. After his coaching career, Dub began his law enforcement career with The National Park Service in Yellowstone National Park. The highlight of his career was being a member of the sniper unit guarding President Bush at Mount Rushmore and in Yellowstone. Dub and Karen lived in West Yellowstone and Mammoth during that time and made numerous friends in that area. Dad retired from the Park Service and moved to Billings to enjoy his retirement with his family. Not being able to stay idle for long, he continued to work through his retirement at various positions until the passing of the sweetheart of his life, Karen in 2000. It was at this point he began working at J&J Concrete as a truck driver. Dad FINALLY retired in 2011. Dad enjoyed the outdoors and hunting all of his life. He especially enjoyed the yearly family hunting camp in Ashland. Dub was preceded in death by his parents Hank and Lucille, his loving wife Karen, his daughter Stacey, and his special cousin, and friend, Al Raymond. Dub his survived by his children: Mick(Teresa), Shane, Shawn(Renee), and Tim(Kathy); his grandkids: Nicole, Michael(Michelle), Tana, Jake, Jesi, Ashley, Alyssa(Mike), and Trey; his great grandkids: Colten, Keegan, Dubber, Bryce, Jaci, Kendrick, Jayden, Marcos, Landry, and Lexis. He is also survived by Rusty and Janys and their kids, Russ, Candace, and Megan Raymond who were special family members. We love you very much Dad and we will miss you!! Service: Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
