Steven Barcroft

Steven Kent Barcroft, 68, passed away March 6, 2011, following open heart surgery. Born Nov. 23,1942, he was raised in Billings and attended Broadwater, Lincoln and Billings Senior High schools. He later attended MSU-Blgs (EMC). At the time of his death, he lived in Pray, MT. Steve married his long-time sweetheart, Debi Brodston Konecny in 1993. This union gained him a son, Chris Konecny (of whom he was immensely proud) and a beloved daughter, Kelly Jo Konecny. Steve and Debi worked in motel management in Gardiner, MT for several years before moving to Paradise Valley. They turned their lives over to Christ Jesus in the year 2000. This dedication of faith brought them both immeasurable peace and joy. Debi went to Heaven in Nov., 2005. Steve could best be described as quiet, gentle and strong. He was a powerhouse of love for his family, his well-chosen friends, and his Lord and Savior. He was a loving grandfather who was interested in every facet of his grandchildren's life, (never missing an opportunity to see them shine), an anchor of truth and support for his children, and a best friend and champion of his sisters. Steve was a remarkably gifted writer, who often wrote expressive and poignant notes and cards to his loved ones. His compassion for others, particularly the poor and the hungry, was evident in both his works and in his spirit. Steve's life was made even richer and more meaningful through the close relationships and affections he shared with the faculty, staff and children at St. Mary's School (aka "Mr. Steve's School") in Livingston, where he was employed as head custodian at the time of his death. He is survived by son, Chris (Kelly Robison) Konecny of Billings; daughter, Kelly Jo (Brock)Konecny of Great Falls; grandchildren Glorian, Gabe and Kale Konecny; sister-in-law, Vaunda Thibault of Laurel; sisters Janet Rickey of Oklahoma City, Susan (Joe) McCormick of Denver, Co., and Wendy Keating of Billings, and their families. Memorials: In leiu of flowers, friends are asked to consider a contribution to St. Mary's Catholic School Scholarship Fund or the charity of their choice. Service: Cremation has taken place.
