Gerson Barnett At the age of 90, Gerson Barnett died peacefully at Marquis Vintage Suites on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Gerson was born on May 4, 1923 in Salt Lake City, the son of Maurice and Florence (Evans) Barnett. After high school graduation he attended the University of Utah. Gerson joined the Merchant Marines. Upon his discharge, he moved to Philadelphia where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Coats and they were united in marriage on September 21, 1946. In 1950, Gerson and Dorothy moved to Washington DC where he began his career with Giant Food, a regional supermarket chain, which at that time had two stores. When Gerson retired in 1980 as Senior Vice President, Giant Food had 150 stores on the East Coast. In 1991, Gerson and Dorothy moved to Hollywood, Florida and in 1998 to Billings, Montana. Dorothy passed away on February 9, 2000. Following her death, Gerson established Dottie's Garden at Zoo Montana. Three brothers and one sister preceded Gerson in death. He is survived by his sons: Robert (Donna) Lehm of Laurel, Evan (Joanne) Barnett of Brookeville, Maryland; 3 grandchildren: Dianne Lehm, Rob Lehm, Renee (Michael) Bomba; 2 great-grandchildren: Charlotte Bomba, Luke Bomba. Graveside services for Gerson will be in Mountview Cemetery, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013. I has the pleasure of knowing Mr. Barnett through a mutual love of his pet dachshunds. He was a kind and generous man who always brought a smile to my face. While I am saddened to have lost touch with him in the past couple years, he will be remembered fondly. To his family I wish to send deepest condolences. May peace be with you.

I send my condolences to the family of Mr. Barnett. I am a volunteer at Zoo Montana who has helped restore Dottie's Garden the past two summers and it is very beautiful. I would love to have a member of her family come and tell me about Mr. and Mrs. Barnett. I love working in Dottie's Garden and we have plans for next summer as well. It is a beautiful memorial.

Remembering Mr. Barnett today, on what would be his 100th birthday. He was a good friend of my family and my parents knew him and Dottie well. They were both warm, loving and lovely people, and everybody always spoke of them so highly.
