Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Charles Samuel LaValva, Jr. announces his passing, on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at the age of 70 years. Charles will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Marita and his children, Jeremy, Justin, and MaraJill. Charles was a simple, conservative, persistent, opinionated, hard-working, methodical, kind, loyal, honest, protective, reliable, caring, ambitous, smart, optimistic, positive and passionate man. He was also strong in every sense of the word. There was nothing he couldn't do and nothing he wouldn't do for his family. He would always find a way to make everything okay. Charles was born and raised in a strong, fun and loving Sicilian home in New Jersey. In his father's footsteps, he became a skilled Craftsman in woodwork and provided a wonderful life for his wife and children. With his own bare hands, one brick at a time, Charles built each of the 4 beautiful homes he and his wife lived in over the years and shared many happy memories as a family. Charles was very proud of his children and loved to hear stories about their day. Charles was also an avid, expert hunter and enjoyed being in the mountains. Preparing for early retirement, Charles built his last home in Montana and moved there to spend his days living his dream in the mountains with his beloved and adored wife by his side. Mass and lunch in memory of Charles will be held on Friday, November 2, 12:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Co-Cathedral 215 North 31st Street Billings, Montana 59101

Charlie was my best friend all through school and after. We grew up in the same neighborhood in Phillipsburg, NJ at a time when things were simple. Playing cards under a street light, riding bikes to the pool, playing wiffleball in the alley, kick the cans, sleigh riding down Boogins Hill, snowball fights, cursing the strip in Easton, PA. We went hunting, fishing and hiking together. I was best man at his wedding. He was there when I joined the Marine Corps and we partied when I came home from Vietnam. Too many great memories to mention. Such a sad day for his family and mankind. May God bless his soul and watch over his wife Marita and his children.

Bill Kellow Charlie was a great friend of mine also. Somehow he talked me into going moose hunting with him in the deep woods of northern Quebec province in Canada. It was the trip of a lifetime and I still tell the story of that trip to friends and family. We had some great times, and I'm sorry to get this news. May God be with you.
