Obituary
John Beall Louk passed away suddenly on December 14, 2015. He was born December 9, 1933 in Crow Agency, Montana to Jack and Florence Louk. He was later joined by a brother Edward and a sister Harriette. The family moved to Billings when John was 6 years old, where he attended school, graduating from Billings Senior High. After attending Rocky Mountain College for a year, he enlisted in the Navy. After serving 4 years he returned to Billings and served in both the Navy and Marine Corps Reserves. On June 21, 1957 he married Charlotte Stoddard in Red Lodge, Montana. They had 3 children, Donald, Nancy and Jeffrey. John worked at Firestone Tire for more than 25 years, before joining Westfeeds. After retiring he became a crossing guard at Washington School. He loved helping the “little people” each day and they nicknamed him Mr. John. John was very active in American Legion Post #4. He served many capacities, including Post Commander. Some of his best memories were of trips with the Drum and Bugle Corps. His greatest passion was serving as State chairman for the Montana Boys State Program. In recent years he also served on numerous Honor Guards. He was also proud to be a volunteer on a Big Sky Honor Flight. John was a huge supporter of his grandchildren, never missing their sporting events or school activities. He also enjoyed taking care of the many feathered friends in his yard. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister Harriette. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; brother Edward; children: Don (Julie) Louk, Nancy (Mike) Wilson and Jeff (Jessica) Louk; grandchildren Brad, Laura and Ryan Wilson; Olivia, Lars and Torstein Louk, with another little one on the way. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with Funeral Services 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to American Legion Post #4 Boys State Program.

John Louk was a wonderful advocate for Billings Central Catholic High School's Boys State delegation. I enjoyed having him walk into my office with his jaunty step and positive attitude. We at Central are grateful for the the way he took care of our students and, especially, for the example he set of service to others. A noble man and a life will lived. John was the crossing guard at Washington during the 7 years that I taught there. He was a wonderful, caring man and such a fierce protector of the kids there. I don't know how many times I saw him walk right out into traffic to stop an unsafe driver and give them a very respectful reminder about being safe around the school. The school gave him a very special send-off a couple of years ago when he was selected for one of the Honor Flights...it is still one of my favorite "Washington memories". Rest in peace, John. You will be missed.

Val and I are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend. I will never forget all the help that he has given me in my American Legion career. I have known him for many years and consider him a great friend.
