Edwin Ludington
June 05, 1930 - December 17, 2018
Obituary
Edwin M. Ludington passed away after a brief but serious illness on December 17, 2018, at the age of 88. Born June 5, 1930 in Fairview, MT on his parent's first anniversary, he was the only child of Merrill and Lucy (Healy) Ludington. Part of his early life was spent in Park Grove, MT, while his father worked on the Fort Peck Dam. Later the family moved to Spanaway, WA, where Merrill worked in the shipyards. Eventually they landed in Billings, where Merrill attended Billings Polytechnic, which later became Rocky Mountain College, and became a certified welder. This is where Dad discovered his love of sports, playing baseball and football. One of the proudest moments of his youth was being part of the 1947 State Champion Football team at Senior High. After graduation, Dad became the second generation of his family to attend Rocky, with the goal of becoming a teacher and football coach. The Korean War interrupted this journey. Dad enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and while serving, attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He returned to college in 1954, and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business. That same year, he met and married Jill Hageman, the woman he would spend his life with. They shared 62 years of marriage and raised 3 children, a daughter and 2 sons. The family spent many summers together on horseback. Edwin was employed by Hoiness-LaBar Insurance for 28 years, retiring in 1995. After the children left home, Mom and Dad continued to travel to many horse shows together, meeting people and making friends all over the western United States. Our Dad was not only committed to his family, but to his community; belonging to many organizations and serving on community boards. Edwin is preceded in death by his wife, Jill, his parents, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by children Barbara (Paul) Martin, Paul (Julie) Ludington, Alan (Julie) Ludington; grandchildren Sara Winter, Rachel (Kyle) Schweissing, Alex Wadner, and Emma (Tyler) Hutten; and 3 great grandsons. He is also survived by extended family members, Mike, Loretta, Mary and Julianne Wadner. A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Saturday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m., at Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings. Memories may be shared at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com

Many of my fondest memories of the horse shows in the 70's and 80's, included Jill and Ed. I can still see Jill up on that big horse of hers, and Ed was always somewhere close by. They were a delight to know. And now riding together. May God have his hand on your heart as you make your journey to heaven.

I worked for Ed Ludington at Hoiness LaBar Insurance. He was a very nice and caring gentleman. He also resided at Morningstar Senior Living where my Mother lived until her passing. We would often would have short conversations and remember the good days in the insurance business and his love of going to horse shows with his wife, Jill. To his children and grandchildren, I am sorry for your loss. Sandee Hugdahl Dunstan.
