Obituary

Ereneo “Joe” Maciel, passed away on January 20, 2015. He was born in San Antonio on January 30, 1932 to Miguel and Guadelupe “Lupe” Soto Maciel. Ereneo was better known as Joe and Mexican Joe, given that name while working for the railroad as the boss didn't know how to say ‘Ereneo.' Mexican Joe came about when he was after the love of his life, Violet. Not liking school, he spent most of his life doing different jobs. After his heart attack and bypasses, Joe could be seen riding his bike, pulling Pee-Wee his dog in the cart he made, and doing chores for Violet. They lived behind the War Bonnet for years. After Vi's passing, Pee-Wee and Joe lived at Fraser Towers, and Joe can be seen all over town in his Blue pickup or Red Bronco with Pee-Wee, mostly behind the War Bonnet so Pee-Wee can play with the rabbits. After Pee-Wee's passing, Joe had a stroke and has been at Parkview since. He was a kind and loving soul. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Violet; sisters, Virginia Valdez and Lupe Garcia; brothers, Bernie, Mike, Raymond, Faustino and Marcie; grandson, R.J. Padilla; and stepchildren, Roberta Garner Schleining, Connie Garner Steele. Joe is survived by daughter Penny (J.T.) Maki; son Dick Garner; sisters Mary (Cecilio) Diaz, Julia (Jesse) Mota, Dorthy Maciel, Savina (Dave) McKeen and Peggy (Al) Mizner; brothers John (Ida) Maciel, Sammy, Maciel, Louie Maciel, Sal (Sally) Maciel, Tom (Rita) Maciel, Richard Maciel, Frank (Pat) Maciel and Greg (Connie) Maciel; grandchildren Connie Deavila, Brien Steele, Patsy Kline, Terry Kline, Tim, Tammy Schleining; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be 10:00am, Monday January 26, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, with a reception following the service. Burial of ashes will be held in Riverside Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to RiverStone Health or donor's choice. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel, and memories can be shared at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com

Dear Maciel Family: I am so sorry to have read of your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. I would like to share something thatI have personally found to be comforting. It is found in the Bible at John 5:28,29 and Revelation 21:4. These verses tell us that soon God is going to bring about a resurrection of our loved ones as well as do away with all causes we have for suffering, including sickness and death. Knowing this has always comforted me and it is my hope that these thoughts will comfort your family also.
