Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved brother Bennett William MacIntyre. He was known as Bill to his family and Mac to everyone else. He came into this world the second of seven children born to Bennett and Mary Catherine “Kay” MacIntyre. He was raised in Anaconda and often spoke of how much he loved his childhood there. It was a childhood filled with freedom and adventure. He loved the time he spent with his McCarthy and MacIntyre grandparents. Our family moved to Butte in the summer of 1953. Bill attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School, and graduated from Butte Central High School in 1961. After high school, he attended Carroll College and then joined the Navy and served in the Construction Battalion (SeaBees) in Vietnam. Upon his return to the States, he completed his studies at Carroll College. He then moved to Billings, where he obtained his Master's Degree in Counseling from Eastern Montana College. Bill remained in Billings, where he directed alcohol and drug counseling programs. He later became the first certified wallpaper hanger in Montana and built a very successful wallpaper hanging business. From there, he invested in the Sunflower Cafe. This eventually became Pug Mahon's, where he enjoyed great success for the remainder of his life and had the best damn pork chop sandwich in all of Montana. Bill lived every moment of his life to the fullest. He loved floating the Salmon river every summer with friends. Being an avid golfer, he enjoyed winning his flight at the Yellowstone Roundup numerous times. He also enjoyed hunting with his beloved dogs Katie, Leo and Sunny. He loved traveling the world, especially being able to go to Ireland to see his Grandfather McCarthy's childhood home. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bennett and Mary Catherine “Kay” MacIntyre. His older brother David died an hour after Bill. He is survived by his brothers Larry (Tricia) MacIntyre, Donald (Kris) MacIntyre, Kevin MacIntyre, Chuck MacIntyre, and his sister Marilyn (Tom Machiorletti) MacIntyre. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Laurel, Christy, Brian, Leslie and Keely MacIntyre; Kelsi, Bennett and Shane MacIntyre; Scott MacIntyre and Kylee Redman; Josh and Corey Schlee and many great-nephews and nieces, all who adored him. He also leaves behind many dear friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Billings Clinic for the care they gave to Mac. Services for Mac will be at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral at noon, Friday, February 1, 2019, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus hall. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date in Anaconda. A wake will be held at Pug Mahon's from 4 to 6 p.m. on January 31, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mac's name to The Billings Clinic Foundation, online at billingsclinic.com or PO Box 31031, Billings, Montana 59107 or to Montana Public Radio online at mtpr.org. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel and memories may be shared with the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com

To all the MacIntyre cousins: I was so sad to hear of Bill’s and Brother David’s passing. I can only imagine how painful this is for all of you. Know that I’m praying constantly for each of you. May God provide great strength and comfort to you. And may He bring your brothers straight up to heaven where eternal happiness awaits them. Please let me know if you need anything more then my prayers. With much love and sympathy, Teresa (McCarthy) Sando and family

Bill was a classmate in grade school and high school. We shared many laughs at Central's reunions over the years. I always appreciated his wonderful sense of humor and remember him with fondness. My sympathy to the entire family. Rest in peace old friend. Marge (Evankovich) Dalzell

To the MacIntyre Family: I was saddened to hear of both "Bill and David's passing. I was one of Mac's first customers at pugs, the varnish on the bar was still wet when I bought my first drink there. We shared the common Irish heritage and, graduating from "centrals", mine in Great Falls. Mac was a good listener, had a generous heart and great sense of humor. We shared a lot of stories of growing up in Anaconda and Great Falls. My prayers and Sympathy, Mark Maki, Helena

Bill MacIntyre Thanks for being a thoughtful generous friend and nephew. Being helpful to others was your trademark. We owe you a thanks for that, as do all who enjoyed your oasis in Billings Montana. Though it was an Irish Pub, the word oasis fits the place. Pugs was a place to get away from the cares of the day or week, and enjoy a good meal and a drink or two, with family and friends. But mostly it was a place of companionship, which has been the essence of Pubs for hundreds of years. Thanks for keeping up the tradition. May you now enjoy your heavenly oasis. Uncle Charles

We were stunned to hear that Mac was gone. For many years, Pugs was a regular part of our lives, a place to grab a beer, good food and catch up with family friends for the week. Even though recently times have changed and we went out less often, Pugs always felt like a home away from home. Mac stopped by our table if we were there at the same time to catch up and talk about issues of the day and politics. You could tell in so many ways he was a great guy but the best was his staff. He trusted them and they protected him. Bless you Bill MacIntyre. We will raise a glass to you and Pugs at our own gathering. And our memories will be joyful and heartfelt.
