Kristin Mackney

Kristin Jo Mackney lost her courageous battle with cancer shortly after midnight on June 22, 2013 at St. Vincent Healthcare. Our only comfort in her passing is having been with her and knowing that she is at peace and free of pain. Kristin was born on July 18, 1978, to Ronald and Shirley Mackney in Billings, MT. Although she wasn't the baby brother that Scott wanted, he quickly became her big brother and protector. Kristin attended Washington Elementary and graduated from Billings Senior in 1996. After receiving her bachelor's degree from MSU-B, she pursued her passion in the social services field. Her position as Child Protection Specialist fulfilled her dream of ensuring that children were placed in a safe environment whether with their natural parents or adoptive parents. Her dream when she beat cancer was to pursue her masters and become a counselor. Kristin's ultimate dream was our trip to Hawaii in 2012. She loved Hawaii and would have moved there if she could have. She loved her ride on the dolphin, and seeing the boys have their dream vacation that she had always promised them. The greatest joy in Kristin's life was being the mother of Caden Scott born in 2000 and Conor Lawrence in 2004. Her latest blessing was the arrival of McCrae Ronald into our lives who lit up her eyes whenever he entered Auntie's room. There was never any doubt that Caden and Conor were the center of her life. She encouraged them to be responsible, caring individuals and was so very proud of them and their accomplishments. She never missed one of Caden's baseball games or Conor's Taekwondo events unless she was hospitalized. The strength and courage Kristin maintained during her fight for life was to remain with her sons as long as she was able. Unfortunately, the cancer won the fight, but she won the war with her undying desire to remain on earth with her sons for as long as she could. Kristin is survived by her sons Caden and Conor, parents Ronald and Shirley Mackney, brother Scott (Judi), nephew McCrae, and aunts, Joile Mackney and Suzanne Nybo and uncles Larry Brunn and Jim Nybo. Not to forget her many close friends that are too numerous to name. Kristin was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence and Ferne Brunn and Joseph and Dorothy Mackney. Services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 26th at 1 p.m. Cremation will follow with private interment of ashes at a later date. A special thanks to Dr. Patrick Cobb, Dr. Brenda Kirkland, Dr. Randall Gibb and staff, Dr. Thomas Kent and all the wonderful nurses and medical professions who helped her through her battle. We will be forever grateful to our friend Tara Sally who accompanied her and Ron to the Cancer Treatment Center. Although Kristin left us way too soon, her memory will be forever in our hearts. The past few months gave us the opportunity to truly bond as a family and enrich our relationships beyond measure with each other and with our wonderful friends who have supported us all from day one.
