Ronald McClintock

Ronald A. McClintock passed away suddenly on June 30, 2016, while vacationing at his summer home on Flathead Lake. He was 76 years old. Ron was born in Billings on October 18, 1939, and spent his first few years living on family farms near Joliet and Silesia, Montana. He attended elementary school at the little Rockvale schoolhouse, where almost all of the students were cousins. His family later moved to Columbia Falls, where he graduated from high school in 1957. During the summers following graduation Ron worked for the railroads near Glacier National Park. He spent four years in the Army Reserves and served six months at Fort Ord in California as a SPC 4 medic. After leaving the Reserves he returned to Columbia Falls and worked in the lumber yards until he decided to attend Northern Montana College in Havre, where he earned an associate's degree in electronics technology. While at Northern, he met the love of his life, Sheila. They were married on June 15th, 1963. Ron's professional career began with AT&T in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In 1964 he transferred to Billings and held various field and management positions until he retired in 1989. Ron kept busy driving a school bus for the special needs children of Billings School District 2, leaving his summers free to build his retirement dream cabin on the shores of Flathead Lake. In 2001 he was awarded Location Driver of the year for the First Student Bus Company. During his retirement years he did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity. Ron loved hunting, camping, scouting, coaching Little League baseball, taking care of his daughter's animals, skiing with his children, watching the Denver Broncos and local high school sports teams, golfing, boating, league bowling, and telling stories. His greatest joy was the time spent at his cabin with family and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his father Roy, mother Lucille, and his brother Harold. He is survived by Sheila, his wife of 53 years and their three children: Bob McClintock and his wife Loretta of Hamilton, Bill McClintock and his wife Cheryl of Los Altos, California, and Becky McClintock of Pablo. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dima, Andy, Thomas, Greg, Audrey, and Charlie, all of whom he dearly loved. Ron was a quiet, gentle man who loved to help people; if it could be done without their knowledge, he liked it even better. In lieu of flowers please follow in Ron's giant footsteps and do a kind deed for someone. Donations to the Billings Food Bank and/or Habitat for Humanity or any charity are encouraged.
