Obituary

In loving memory of Donna J. McCurdy (Scott), Donna was born in Crow Agency, MT, February 1, 1933 and died peacefully at her home in Hardin, MT, at the age of 82 years. This happened Monday evening, September 14, 2015. Donna was especially known for her love that she showed to both family and friends. She enjoyed sewing quilts, doing her bead work and appreciated her studies of the bible scriptures. Her hope was to live in the paradise on earth, she looked forward to the time when she would see her dead love restored to life in the resurrection, and now she will also benefit from this same hope of being resurrected here on earth. The scriptures says that Jehovah is a God of the living not of the dead, they all are alive in God's memory. Donna, was a student of the Flandreau Indian School, in South Dakota, as was the case of many Indians throughout the nation, she attended with other Native Americans, both of her family and her friends. It was there in South Dakota that she found the love of her life when she met, and later married, Marvin D. McCurdy. He was a Sioux Indian, enrolled with the Yankton Sioux tribe, however, his family was originally from Minnesota, of the Mdewakanton band, known also as the Dakota Sioux band under Chief Wabasha, this was his immediate family. Marvin and Donna were part of the Indian Removal Act, the government's objective was to assimilate Native Americans in mainstream society, away from their known reservation life, and they were relocated to Inglewood, CA. Donna J McCurdy, was one of four siblings, she was both Crow and Blackfoot Indian, her father Elmer Gilbert Scott, was the son of Amy Shane, Amy was the daughter of Pierre Shane (aka Du, De, Chienne, Chene, Chesne or Shane) there were many children of Pierre, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great-grandchildren, etc, most of them still reside in the Crow Tribe. Pierre children were Frank, Fred, Montana Bird That Turns His Face, Kathern Scott, Amy Scott, Mary One Goose, Crooked Face, Sweat House, Ben Hillside, Emma Frazer, the grandchildren, Scott, One Goose, Frazer, Hogan, One Star, Yellowtail, Takes The Gun, Joseph Medicine Crow, and all the great-great children of Pierre with their famlies. Donna mother, Mattie Scott Robinson, was the daughter of James Robinson and Annie Big Beaver of the Blackfoot tribe. Marvin and Donna had four children DuWayne, Colette Hall, Gisele Parker and Kent McCurdy, Donna learned the Bible in the early fifties when she studied with Jehovah's Witness, and was later baptized in 1950, however her family, work and person pursuit took away her time from her studies for a period of time, but she later rekindled her love of the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. In these latter years she died faithfully as a sister in the faith among her spiritual family with Jehovah's people. Many knew Donna from her work helping the Indians tribes, with 39 years of government service with the Bureau of Indian Affairs before she retired in 2002. A special thanks goes out to those who helped to dignify her, to honor her, and show her the respect that is worthy of an older woman, mother, grandma and great-grandmother. Her family and friends, Debbie and Cyndi Scott, Nate and Kim Blankenship, David and Valerie Small, Dennis Wilson, John Doyle, Larry and Dale Kindness, and many others, as well, to all her spiritual family of brothers and sisters at the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Donna's memorial service will be Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, in Hardin, MT at 2:30 pm, all are welcome to attend the services.

I shall miss Donna, she was a women of strength and grace. She was always good to me and I was honored to have laughed with her and spent time with her. I took for granted that she would always be a visit away and am sad to learn our visits have ended here on earth. I look forward to someday again seeing her smile and enjoying her no nonsense approach to life. Rest in Peace Aunti Donna. I love you and will see you later :) -Cleora Hill-Scott
