Dennis Beaumont

At the age of 71, Dennis David Beaumont passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Vincent's Hospital on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Three Stripes of Valor was born on November 17, 1948, the son of Phillip, Sr. and Martha (Sun Goes Slow) Beaumont in Hardin, Montana. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and child of the Bad War Deeds. Dennis grew up in Pryor and attended elementary school there. He attended high school in Edgar, Montana, graduating in 1967. Dennis pursued his higher education at Rocky Mountain College, obtaining a degree in Business Administration. He returned to Eastern Montana College (Montana State University-Billings), earning an elementary education degree. During the Vietnam War, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a Petty Officer Third Class from 1970 to 1974. Dennis was very proud to serve his country. Dennis was a member of the St. Charles Parish in Pryor, and served on the Parish Council for many years. He made his Cursillo at St. Anthony's Parish in Laurel, Montana in 1988. Dennis had many passions and life experiences. His love for ranching and preservation of Crow lands was paramount. He was an active rodeo participant, qualifying as a calf roper in the Montana High School Finals Rodeo. He continued team roping well into his later years. His greatest passion was world travel with his beloved daughter and caretaker Sarah Rose. They traveled to Rome, Paris, Hawaii and all over North America. Dennis and Sarah Rose enjoyed attending Hardin Bull Dogs basketball games, rodeos and local powwows. Dennis worked as an Accountant for the Montana Power Company, Lead Conveyance Examiner with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Field Staff for Senator Max Baucus, Public Relations Officer for the Crow Tribe and as a teacher for the Pryor Public Schools. Dennis was a very traditional man, handing down Crow traditions to younger family members and clan relatives. He was given the right to speak in public by John Holds, Sr. Dennis wore a war bonnet and war shirt, sang praise songs, directed ceremonial processions and publicly smoked the sacred pipe. Dennis was a descendent of Chief Bell Rock, Chief Pretty Eagle, and Chief Plenty Coups; and was a descendent of Enemy Hunter, Shakes Her Shield, Sun Goes Slow, Albert Thunder Iron Lincoln, Old Tom LaForge, Little Owl, Travels Well Known and Nomee. Survivors include his children, Shane (Kasiakin), Michael Thomas, daughters Misty Leigh Carter and Sarah Rose Beaumont. Siblings include sisters Edwina Beaumont and Jolene (Richard) White Clay, Latisha, Patleen and Donna Stewart, Loretta Thomas, Rebecca (Calvin) Jefferson, Jr., Colleen Simpson and Sharlyn Do Good. Brothers include Phillip (Vivian), Jr., Ronald (Marcia), Neal, Sr., Pastor Jay (Marilyn), Mike (Laura) Simpson and Irvin Stewart, Jr., Donald Stewart. Dennis' grandchildren are Shayla, Kole, Myles and great grandchild Zayn (Shane). Chase, Cayla, Carly, and Caleb Carter (Misty). Lawrence Marion, Amerah and Dazzlyn Hugs (Amber). His aunts are Angeline Whiteman, Hannah (Kenneth) Pretty on Top, Ernestine Birdinground, Sandra (Myron) Shields, Marie Lincoln, Lois (Jerome) White Hip, Rosemary Lincoln, Rosie May (Earl) Bearcrane, Colleen (Arlen) Whiteman, and Georgineann (John) Adams. He is also survived by his Uncle David J. Stewart, Sr. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Martha Beaumont, Sr., Grandmother Mae LaForge, Grand Uncle Alex LaForge, Uncles Tommy and Harlan Sun Goes Slow, Aunts, Ruby Simpson, Adelia Stewart and Mary Francis Flat Lip, and his beloved nephew, Stephen “Smitty” Beaumont. Extended family includes the Little Owls, Birdinground, Bird Hat, Don't Mix, Real Bird, Reeds, Holds the Enemy, Lincoln, Flat Lip, Big Hair, and LaForge, and Takes the Horse, Red Wolf, Little Nest and Sun Goes Slow. Rosary will be recited at 6 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at St. Dennis Church in Crow Agency with burial to follow in Crow Agency Veterans Cemetery.
