Mary Beckers

Mary Beckers, 86, of Billings passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Billings Clinic. She was born December 9, 1927 in Bozeman, Montana to John and Frances Wittman. She enjoyed her schooling, and thought she might become a nun until she met the love of her life, Dan Beckers. Mary and Dan were married on June 7, 1947 at Holy Rosary Church in Bozeman. After the wedding, the couple honeymooned in Outlook, Montana where Dan's family lived. Family was very important to Mary and Dan. The couple lived in several places while building their own family. They settled in Billings in 1955. Mary worked at the Westward Ho Motel until retiring with Dan to Roberts, Montana in 1981. It was at the motel that she made some of her best friends. She loved socializing, gardening and playing all sorts of games. Pinochle and Bingo were her favorites. In fact, Mary loved bingo so much that she started her own Bingo nights in Roberts when she moved there. She loved making her famous cinnamon rolls to share with everyone who came to play. Mary also added to the family in Roberts when she made a best friend in Mary Mihalyfi. The two enjoyed many adventures together. One of Mary's greatest adventures was learning to drive at the age of 57. She got her driver's license the same time as her eldest grandson, thanks to the help of her son-in-law. The couple moved back to Billings, and eventually moved into Aspen Meadows. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Wittman; brother: Johnny Wittman and sister: Frances Van Spyk. Survivors include her husband, Dan Beckers of Billings, children, Linda (John) Lahey of Riverton, WY, Rita (Axel) Alstrom of Wasilla, AK, Ken (Julie) Beckers of Billings, Sandy (Dean) Krimmer of Meridian, ID, Doug (Debbie) Beckers of Port Neches, TX, Cindy (Fred) Keller of Billings; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several in-laws, nieces and nephews. Service: Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman.
