Shirley Moerer

Shirley Moerer went to be with her Lord January 24, 2017 at her home in Billings, MT. She was considered an angel by all who knew her. I think she rode into heaven on a white horse with a crown on her head, surrounded by angels on horses. Shirley taught her children and grandchildren to respect all nations and creeds and not to call anyone names. She also had them memorize Scripture and repeat the verse, “And be you kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.” KJV Shirley was born in Roanoke, VA to Irene and Ted Ray. She married Ralph Moerer, March 31, 1945 while he was home on leave in World War II. She went to the University of Nebraska while her husband was in the Navy. She worked in the Doane College Treasurer's Office while her husband attended college. After he graduated they lived in Hardy, Hebron, Norfolk and Grand Island, NE where he taught school and coached and she raised their two children, Bruce and Peggy. The family moved to Billings in 1964 where she taught Sunday School at Messiah Lutheran Church. She was involved in Women's Aglow. She attended a Thursday morning prayer group for 40 years. She also taught a Bible study for teenage girls in Young Life. She was cured of breast cancer and was involved in a women's support group. When her husband retired they traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, the west coast and Mexico. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; daughter, Peggy DeTienne; daughter-in-law, Jill Moerer; and 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Irene Ray; son, Bruce Moerer; sister, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Fisher; and grandson, Anthony Havener. A Memorial Service for Shirley will be 11 am Saturday, February 4 at Messiah Lutheran Church.
