James Morris

Obituary
On the morning of Sunday, October 27, 2013, one of the finest cowboys, James Glenn “Jim” Morris, rode away from this earth to his eternal home in Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a courageous battle with cancer. He spent his last weeks in Billings, MT, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on August 18, 1947 in Billings, MT, the son of Donald and Bette Morris. He was raised with his younger sisters, Judy and Jo Ann, at the family farm on Fly Creek, near Pompey's Pillar, MT. During his school years, Jim was involved in 4-H and FFA. He graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1965. In 1977, Jim married the love of his life, Dorothy Perhus. Their daughter, Jennifer Ruth, was born in 1979. “Jenny” was the pride and joy of Jim's life. Jim and Dorothy later divorced, but remained best of friends. Jim made many life-long friends through his various occupations. He worked as a ranch hand for John Scott and Jim Green, as a brand inspector at the stockyards, and as a truck driver for LeClair Trucking and Koss Trucking, before owning his own trucking company, J&D Morris Trucking. In 2011, Jim retired from Halvor Lines Trucking in Superior, WI, where he was a loyal, hard-working, dedicated employee for 25 years. He held various positions, starting as a truck driver, then dispatcher, Vice President of Marketing, and Director of Operations. He was so proud of Halvor Lines and was honored to be a part of the Halvor Lines family. Jim was a cowboy thru-and-thru. He enjoyed everything about agriculture and ranch life. He had a true love for rodeo, and in his younger years he participated in team roping and steer wrestling. Jim enjoyed 4-wheeling and was an active member of the TrailsNorth ATV Club. Jim loved to be outdoors, enjoying God's creation. During the summer months, he could usually be found camping at Iron Lake or Moon Lake. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially taking friends and family on fishing trips on the Great Lakes. If there was a PBR event on TV, you could bet Jim would be watching it; he also enjoyed watching live cattle auctions on RFD. Jim's yard was always adorned with extravagant flower beds and his beautiful handmade woodcrafting projects. Each summer he planted a huge vegetable garden that was enjoyed by many – not a weed to be found! Jim was a member of the Duluth Superior Transportation Association and was elected “Retiree Director” for 2013. He assisted in organizing the Great Northern Classic Rodeo in Superior, and was honored for 20 years of volunteering with this non-profit rodeo. Jim's life was characterized by his generosity, caring, and kindness to his family, friends, and anybody in need. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. His laughter, legendary story-telling, teasing, and joking will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. In Heaven, Jim was reunited with his parents, Donald and Bette, his mother-in-law, Ruth Perhus, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He also got to hold his unborn baby for the first time. Jim is survived by his daughter, Jennifer; ex-wife, Dorothy; sisters, Judy (Jack) Lackman and Jo Ann Morris; niece, Donni (Steven) Tullar; nephew, Jim Lackman; and great-nieces, Hannah, Alex, Olivia, and Averi. He is also survived by son, Scott; daughter, Brandy; and countless wonderful friends and relatives. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of RiverStone Hopsice and the many friends and family members that cared for and supported Jim and his family through this difficult season. Service: A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00am at Faith Chapel (Main Worship Center).

Was so shocked and saddened to hear of Jim's passing and of the fact that he had to deal with cancer. Kind of lost track of after he started trucking but I am proud to say that he was one of the best friends I ever had when we were young. If Jim considered you a friend it was not to be taken lightly. He was the genuine article.
