James Mossman

James P. Mossman, 90, passed away on November 27, 2013 from an extended illness. Jim was born on December 18, 1922 in Billings, and was the eldest son of John C. and Anna M. (Schwalger) Mossman. He was one of four children, having two sisters and one brother. In his youth, Jim attended school and began working with his father on the family farm on the Billings Bench. He worked alongside his father until 1964 when John passed away. Jim continued to work the farm until 1979, following that he was involved in a variety of work and leisure time pursuits. Jim met Ellen Wickstrom through the St. Patrick's Church “Pat Club” where other Billings area singles met and socialized. They were married on February 3, 1950. Ellen passed away in 1975. Jim delighted in lively conversation and a good laugh with friends and family. In his 90 plus years living in Billings Jim acquired a wealth of information, particularly on the farming community of the Billings Bench. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experiences with others and his mind and memory were sharp into his last days. Jim was a long time member of St. Bernard's Parish. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his son, Dan (Jane) Mossman of Helena, several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, his wife Ellen, his sisters Dorothy and Betty, and his brother Frank. During the last months of his life Jim was under the care of Rocky Mountain Hospice. He was appreciative of the care he received and was especially fond of Lori and Rita. Thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice Jim was able to spend his last days at home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 4 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
