Lucy O'Brien

Lucy O'Brien, adoring wife and mother of three, died peacefully at her home, on Sunday, December 23, 2018, surrounded by family. Lucy was born on July 9, 1923 to George Myles and Ethel May (Carter) Gilbert in Burton, New Brunswick, Canada, one of nine siblings. She graduated high school as valedictorian and entered Catholic boarding school in nearby Fredericton, N.B. in 1940, graduating, again, as valedictorian in 1944. After a twelve-year nursing career, Lucy moved to Western Montana where she met and married John O'Brien, an Anaconda Co. Mining executive. They settled in Butte, MT and had two daughters and a son. John retired from Anaconda Mining in 1976 and he and Lucy moved to Billings in 1981 and made their home here ever after. Lucy is survived by her two daughters, Mary O'Brien of Billings and Ann (Jeff) Daniels of Olathe, KS; son, Joseph O'Brien of Billings; grandchildren, Matt (Brynn) Daniels and their son, Rownan of Forest City, IA , Patrick Daniels of Vancouver, WA and Kate Daniels of Olathe, KS. Our mother's love has touched and guided our lives and set the example for sympathy, empathy and charity for all less fortunate. Memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick Co-Cathedral on Wednesday, January 30, 2018 at 12:00 pm with inurnment in Holy Cross Cemetery Columbarium.
